If your so worried about the milage get a rebuild kit, these engines will last over 175,000 maybe more depending whats done to it. Eff it let that biotch blow then go with an rb26. Ive got one sitting in the garage!!!

Why an RB26? There are more options than putting in an old OBDI motor.

I was bs'ing but for real have you ever looked into what an rb can put down plus its slightly lighter. much more research has been put into the rb motor over the vq, the vq is an amazing motor in its class but truly the rb's parts are much cheaper and easier to find. i.e. vq cams $1200, rb cams $500. pistons, rods etc.

so your dropping a .9l smaller motor because it makes power? that motors been around for over 20 years. this version of the vq is newer, and still puts out and holds great power. vq>rb

Yes vq is great, for $6000 + i can put a tt kit and get 400+ hp, for less than $4000 i can put down much more on a rb. lighter, more power and cost effective i think its proven that horsepwower to weight ratio is much more important on a track car rather than playing i got a tt kit and my PEAK hp is 410.

Good luck finding RB parts this side of the pond for a decent price. The RB is an expensive motor to fix when it breaks. Not because the parts are super god motor parts, but because the supply of said parts is VERY LOW. That's why the RB really never took off as a viable engine swap. Granted it makes gobs of power, but when dealing with any Forced Induction application that amount of variables in the equation with respect to components that can fail doubles at least. Add in the low supply variable and you're up a creek with most issues.

You're right HP to weight is a key component when racing. You also have to look at the AREA under the curve.

Out here in Ca there is many shops that can provide parts if it happens to break, im not actually swapping a friend of mine gave me this rb its been sitting for 3 years possibly going into a 74 240z. someone brought up that the vq has a bigger displacement and strong power, all im saying is price wise for what you get the rb is a better concept. im not hateing on the vq i love my car and it hasnt failed me yet.
and i agree about the power curve most just want 650 whp but they dont realize thier average hp is jumping all over.

I figured you weren't hating on the VQ. I think your argument has SOME logic to it. The only flaw I see is that it is a OBDI motor and our cars are OBDII. Good luck swapping that into a newer car especially in cali. I can't even get away with that in VA. Your argument is more sound with respect to racing applications. Not every state can swap in an OBDI motor.

yea cali sucks for emissions control, thats why my rb is more than likely going into an early 70s z.

Yeah since it's more than 25 years old you can put anything in it right? I would totally put the RB in the 70s Z. Have you been to HybridZ.org?
Pretty awesome site for older Z's that swap different motors.

nice site thanks for sharing. i have a buddy that has a 240z with an rb26dett in it, right hand drive the car cost a shiite load to find. but the thing is insane fast and all together cost $75000+. i couldnt afford that kinda project, so ill stick to the mild build of the car and engine something more for the street to cruise.

I must be screwed, I have 138k!

Save your money and drive it until it blows. If anything, get an engine on the side and build it slowly, but be patient because I have a feeling your VQ has many many more miles to give. My car runs faster at 138k than it did at 100k.

have you gone a single day without making 30 useless posts? you've got 40,000 posts and probably less than 1% of them have contributed anything worthwhile to this forum - even that's probably being generous.

this isnt 1962. we've cloned animals, landed on the moon, and have learned to purify and recycle fecal water to safe drinking standards. i think your a little behind the times.

theres guys boosting 100k+ mile motors. do a compression and leak down test before you get **** retentive and waste your money because your odometer hit 6 figures
