hey fellow Z's i bought this car about a year now and every once a while it would just crank but doesn't start. before it happen like once a week and now about 3 times a week. when this happens i would try to take the key out turn it the other way and restart it, sometimes work, sometimes don't and after i get it started it would run perfect... Today the same thing happened and i tried for about 10 minutes but no hope, clueless to what it is.... so waited about 15 min came back out and it started with one try...... anyone have the same problem or have an idea please tell me.. thank you

 

Prior to turning the key all the way do you hear the fuel pump??

yes i do, because before i would usually listen for it, i would turn the ignition on 1st then i would start it, but now i hear it but no start

 

Check the easy things first, battery, starter. Try and jump it, see how it starts from there.

 

thanks a lot guys but i have a feeling it might be my key. looks like a piece of plastic broke off and then previous owner glued it together. now i have to buy another key because it only came with one key when i bought the car. anyone knows how to program a new blank key with a transponder? hopefully not the dealer

 

You do have to have keys programmed at the dealer. But why do you think it's the key if it's been working for a while and now it's not? I don't think keys go bad all of a sudden. Sounds like your starter may have a dead spot in it.

 

check the crankshaft position sensor.. same thing happened to me. i replaced it and it works perfectly nowemily roberts

 

you know the same thing would happen to my car when it was just a weekend car It would just crank and crank and nothing Ill sit for a few minutes and then try again and it would turn on just fine It spent a couple of days at the dealer and they said it fired right up every time Now its my daily and it hasnt dont that in over a year

 

any luck with figuring out the problem? My 08' is doing the same thing - just once in a while but it's driving me nuts...no codes thrown...yet
