Default LS1 STS questions

Hey guys,

So I am a FI noob for sure but I have some questions. I have a guy looking to trade an 05 GTO with the STS rear mount turbo kit for my 06 z. My main question is what kind of boost are people running with this kit on the LS1's stock internals.

Also, I have concerns about getting a FI car in the first place. Besides getting it retuned what are some things I should look for as tell-tale signs of a potentially blown engine?

Thanks for any help and if this needs to be moved to the "other vehicles" section mods please do so.

Maybe the best place to ask this kind of question is on the GTO forum.

Yes.

The car would smoke badly, run badly or not run at all.

Maybe the best place to ask this kind of question is on the GTO forum.
THIS. Try any of the GTO forums or LS1tech forum. Someone may be able to help you here, but the one guy with an STS type setup just posted a video and disappeared without any info on his setup.

You mean LS1GTO.com? Yeah, bunch of jackwagons over there.

To answer some of your questions:

There is no exact limit of how much boost an LS motor can handle, but people have been able to throw 15+ PSI at a stock bottom and put down 800+ RWHP for years without issue but they are the rare exceptions. It's all in tune, really.

I believe the GTO STS kit out of the box is setup for 5 PSI but that doesn't stop many people from upping the boost.

Boost or not, a ****ed up engine is a ****ed up engine. Take it to a professional mechanic and have them give it a once over, just like any used car you are interested in buying.

Go on ls1tech and ask. As stated before, an 05 should have an ls2.

I had confused some dates, the car is an 04 so it has the LS1, i thought he said it was an 05 with a LS1 so I was screwed up there.

Anyways, drove the car today and everything seemed fine, wasn't able to really open it up but its muchhhh different than the z. Seems raw compared to the z, which is nice hehe. . Im taking it to two different shops, the one he tuned it at and the one I use to see how the opinions differ, also to get a good idea of the limitations of the set up. Thanks for all the help guys and I'll post pics up as soon as(if) I get the car

Z is a sexier car. Keep it. Just my .02. I think it's more fun to drive than most I've driven
