How is the manual trans?
Im selling my 2005 roadster, auto trans because I got good selling price (more than market price), & Im planning to buy another roadster with same model 2005 but manual tran. During my search on google, I found a lot of complains about manual trans in Z. can someone tell me are there really major defects or factory defects with the manual trans in Z?
Mine is fine, never had issues. They tend to be somewhat rough when letting the clutch out after hitting second. And my clutch pedal used to stick or not fully retract on super hot days in traffic. I think there is a tsb on that issue but i just swapped the clutch line for a stainless one and better fluid and no problems since.
you want a car w the cd009 transmission, not sure which years those came out....google it i guess.
its revised and doesnt have the same issues w the synchros. Im looking for a used one myself. All other complaints about the trans are one off issues and are complaints about clutches and hydraulic systems that need proper adjustment or to be replaced due to mileage.

Manual transmission grinding issues are pretty prevalent for older 350z models. For my '03 the grinding is most pronounced when I try shifting into 3rd and when shifting into 5th. Sadly, I don't think that Nissan has ever even done so much as issue a TSB for the grinding tranny problem so you're on your own when it comes to rectifying the problem.
thanx for the replies guys. Im doing a search about the differences between cd008 trans & cd009 trans, & it seems that cd009 has less issues because of the improvements that have been done by Nissan. my question is: which type of trans is equipped with 2005? cd008 or cd009?

You should go and buy your AT roadster back from whoever you sold it to.
Later models have the better transmission, but they also have the concentric slave cylinder for the clutch. That sorry device was designed solely to torment car owners who want to shift gears.

as i experienced; Nissan transmissions are not the smoothest
however their build quality is at top!
if your already comfort with the fun-to-drive MT; i would suggest to try an MT 350z by your self first; if possible.
my car is 2006 Rev-up MT; it started to get little rough (from 1st to 2nd only) after about 55K .. other than that; am enjoying it daily
good luck man

My 03 6sp tranny was replaced by the dealer at 2X,XXX miles along with a new clutch and throwout bearing (3rd gear syncro shot). They took care of me and replaced it without really any hassle. It *was* under the factory warranty though at that point O.o
66,000 miles now and still not a problem, even after going TT ^ ^

I have an 07, but have had no issues with the CSC. OP -- if you get a manual, spend some money on a weighted shift ****. It'll make a WORLD of difference! I've had good look with weighted shift ***** on every manual I've owned, so I knew it was my first mod on the Z. It's hard to explain how/why, but a weighted shift **** will help guide/force the shifter into the gate with a rather satisfying "thunk", making the overall shifting process much more smooth. Night and day difference vs the stock shifter.
Since I'm a baller (lol), I spent the $250 for a Tommy Kaira.

The manual trans in the 350 isn't the smoothest. It's worst when you are just putting around town, during those times shifting into 2nd and sometimes 3rd can be a little rough. Driving it hard and redlining though, it shifts much much smoother for me. Go figure.
That said, I would never own an auto Z (rented one at one point, it was a lot less fun to drive).
Definitly look at getting a Z with a cd009 trans, it's what all the newer Z's have and what the older Z's got replaced with if they had syncro issues in their older trans.
I also second getting a weighted shift ****. I have the desert eagle from TWM, expensive (about $150) but worth its weight in gold when it comes to shifting feel.
