Default Adjusted my clutch, quick question.

I was browsing the web earlier today and found out I can adjust my clutch pedal's position to make the clutch pedal travel shorter. My clutch pedal used to sit about 3/4 of an inch higher than my brake pedal. Now, it sits about a 1/4 of an inch lower than my brake pedal. The engagement point of the clutch is about 1/4 of an inch to 1/2 an inch off of the floor. When I let the clutch pedal all the way out, I can hear the notorious "rattle" that our dual mass flywheels make. However, when I push the clutch pedal all the way in the sound stops about a second after the pedal hits the floor. It almost just sounds like the flywheel/clutch assembly spinning off it's momentum before it stops. Either way, I'm wondering if I've adjusted my clutch pedal too low, or if that's normal. Let me know if you have any useful information. Thanks!

That's a pretty low engagement point. Anyone unfamiliar with the car would probably stall it from a start or grind the gears when shifting.

I went and took it for a drive shortly after making the adjustment, and I can back out of my driveway, drive around town, and pull back into my garage just fine. I haven't stalled it, and I don't think the gears are grinding. It still shifts smooth. No grinding noises or trouble getting it in to gear. I may adjust it up just a little bit more so the engagement point isn't so low. Perhaps to where the engagement point is 3/4 of an inch off the floor. I'm just worried that having it too low would make the clutch not fully disengage when the pedal is pushed all the way down, you know?

I tried that when I was adjusting it, but it still felt a little too high for my taste. So, I put it about 1/4 to a 1/2 an inch lower than my brake peddle. I might adjust it back, we'll see.

Well, I had no problem doing it so I don't know what the dealer is talking about. lol It only took me about twenty minutes to do with hand tools in my garage. One of the easiest/best mods I've done so far. Shifting is so smooth now.

Why would the shifting be smoother? As long as the clutch is being disengaged between gears, the shifts should be the same.

im sure he meant that his shifting abilities have improved because of the adjustment, hence smoother shifting.

As in the shifting is less jerky. Before when the clutch pedal was at stock height, I had to let it out about 3 inches before it would even begin to engage. Now, it engages a lot faster, making my shifts smoother instead of jerky because of all the extra clutch travel.

A friend did this in his BMW and it made heel-toe shifting much easier, according to him. I know what you mean about the jekiness, too. Another friend has an E46 3 series and the clutch travel is insanely long... Neither of us are 100% smooth all the time in his car : /

Yeah, it felt like I was driving a big truck before. lol Now it feels like the proper sports car that the 350z is. I'm very happy with it.

All I used was a small wrench that fit the lock nut on the end of the rod and a little bit of elbow grease to turn the rod. lol It's very simple.
