try searching for "grounding kit" and read. there's so much information readily available.

I put a 6 gauge high quality cable from my throttle body to my battery . I sintered it at the main battery terminal on the fender. I put two 4 gauge hi quality cables from each side of the block under the engine to the frame.
I can't believe the immediate increased throttle response from idle to 4000 rpm
amazing ! now almost neck snapping !

grounded....

You need to connect any signal termination point, IE the TB, to the ECU where the signal is generated. Connecting it to the battery does very little in comparison for imrovement.

Furthermore, that heavy of gauge of wire is kinda useless. Due to the skin effect, little current actually flows inside wire you added, just on the outer 'skin' of the wire.

A grounding kit really needs to include some sort of shielding for each critical control line.

The heavy gauge wire is not solid, it is multistrand. That large gauge means hundreds of strands and therefore lots of "outer skin".

The ground kit is not connected to any "control" functions therefore it does not need to be shielded.

DavesZ,

First of all, multistranded doesnt mean anything if they arent isolated from each other. It electrically behaves as one solid peice for all practical purposes.

Shielding is good, because of the known EMI inside an engine compartment. The alternator generates TONS of noise which can couple into any single ended signal. As such, that is going to generate error as seen by the ECU.

However, to make it clear, I am not suggesting shielding the ground cables. I am suggesting grounding cables are of questionable value, and that shielding all control lines and running ground with them (from ECU source to sensor) would produce much better results.

There is really no noticable difference. It just looks nice. I have the HKS circle earth mounted on my negative battery terminal.

While it's not a definitive scientific test, check out SkiDaZZle's postings in the following thread:

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....M&pagenumber=2

Look about 10 message down on that page (2nd). He posts some measurements from ODB-2 of the idle of his Z. The variation in idle is half the normal with the grounding kit connected.

Well, a month later I finally installed my 6-wire grounding kit and am sorry to say that it does not accomplish a bit of a difference for me. The first night after install completion it did feel "smoother", but that was probably just the placebo effect settling in. On the way to work trhis morning I realized that my engine still idles the same way and everything else that occured previously still operates the same way.

Can anybody post what exactly a grounding kit is supposed to accomplish? I thought that it was supposed to decrease negative (effect) signals disrupting the ECU's processes, hence the making the engine idle smoother. I've read from some posts that some people have had it make a difference in their cars and some have not. I wonder why?

Finally installed mine 1 month later and it did nothing for me. First night placebo effect took over and the car actually felt smoother. This morning's drive to work made me realize that the 6-wire grounding kit really did nothing for me. That car still idles the same way and everything else operates the same.

I've read some posts where grounding kits really made a difference for people and some that took no effect. Why do you guys think that some people have grounding kits for them and some don't?
