Default Is it the DE or the HR?

Hello ALL,

I am new to this forum and the Z (owner for a year). I purchased an '06 Z that should have had a VQ35DE motor. In the notes I received with the vehicle I found that the engine was replaced under warranty due to "high oil consumption" . The notes state that a 2007 motor was used (which should be the VQ35HR). However, there is only one intake (as on the DE). Is it possible to have the HR but retain the DE top end? Is there any way to tell if the block and internals are that of the HR without taking the top end off?

Thanks

Default I doubt it

I don't know the specifics with the mechanicals, but I do remember reading an article where someone had installed a HR motor in a 2006 and had a horrible time working out the electronics. Apparently the motor controls between the DE and HR use a different harness and plugs.

its a rev-up. should have 4 cam sensors in the back and a blue and green plug on the front timing covers. oil consumption was a common problem on these

I think what he is getting at is "you can use google to get pics/descriptions of both engines and then look for yourself"

Thanks all who responded. I don't know enough about the VQ to know if you can use the intake/throttle assembly from a 35DE and use it on a 35HR.

HR is the only engine you got right, but comes in both auto and manual like all the engines for our Z's.

Aside from all of the flaming, I thought it was a very relevant question to ask. Cause at the end of the day, those factory guys do not take that car home. He is the one that has to deal with the engine problems if he is stranded somewhere, and discovers that they replaced the engine with a Hamster on a spinning wheel.
