problem with quaife lsd install
I have the same issue with the ring gear. Bought mine in January and had a shop attempt the install about two weeks ago when they ran into the problem. The shop sent it to Motovicity and Motovicity said there is no problem and sent it back to me (not the shop where the work is getting done which is about an hour away).
I asked the the company I purchased it from if I can do some sort of exchange and they said since it's past the 30 days they can't help me. So i'm stuck with a Quaife I can't use.
Fair warning, stay away from QDF11L (Manual transmission non-VSLD replacement). You might get lucky and get a good one, or you might not.

I ran into the same issue last fall as did another member. Every time someone contacts them, their MO seems to be, "That's the first we have heard of this". Yes their ring gear bolt holes in the flange were machined too small for the entire last run of these diffs. Email or call Scott Cole of Quaife USA. Email: scott.cole@motovicity.com, phone number: 248-307-1570.
Looks like I was too quick to reply. If the ring gear ID is wrong, check that you have the correct base model diff and it isn't something else. If someone threw in a VLSD in there, you will run into some issues if you trying to put the Quaife LSD for the base (open) model. The only issue I have seen involves the ring gear flange bolt hole size.
Luckily for me, Quaife overnighted a replacement diff to the shop several months after purchase.
Interesting. Hope OP and the rest having problems work them out. Would you guys please be so kind to update this thread after the resolution of your problems? I'm interested in buying a Quaife in the near future.

I don't understand this, I'm telling you it doesn't work, you're the main distributor and probably are sitting on some considering the one I bought was directly drop shipped from you. But you can't swap me a different one even if I'm offering to pay you more money?
I ended up buying a used NISMO diff from a member on here. I gave up on the Quaife. Obviously my vendor here and Motovicity are not going to help, my last recourse is Quaife themselves in UK. IF I ever get anywhere with them I'll let you know.
I "bought" three for my base before I gave up and contacted quaife directly. Get up at 2-5am, call them in England (8 hours ahead from EST) and get it resolved. I ended up getting mine for far less in three days shipped from England.
The U.S. distribution chain is a joke.

When I was searching for something quaife related I found posts on Viper forums with similar issues. They just had the holes drilled. It is good they are too small, they can become bigger.
If you are uninterested in that just put it up for sale. I am sure someone will be willing to deal with having it drilled.
I might if the installer had not f00ked the install and just cost me over 1200 replacing the 4.08 FD, buying a full rebuild kit and labor to have a qualified differential shop redo it.
The good news is I now have a properly assembled 4.08 fd with quaife and there is no vibration at all from it. I thought the NVH was from the solid bushings that also went in at the same time. It was the thrown in ring and pinion eating it's self.

That sucks. What was their logic for refusing help?

I think my problem is similar to Mike's.

I agree...Scott Cole is the man to go to for quaife related answers....I have an issue with an open diff quaife being purchased for use in an open diff but with 5 AT 3.3 ring gears...it will NOT work! The dimension L4 on the AT model is 0.400 less than the other models..this is to make up for the fact that the AT ring gear is much thicker (why?) than the MT ring gear...Scott suggested I machine the ring gear 0.400 and install on the open diff quaife-he states that the heat treating of the ring gear doesnt matter on the BACKSIDE of the gear, only on the teeth..he also states that the quaife is heat treated so no one should ever machine (at least not too deeply) to damage the treating....we still cannot figure why the AT ring gear is larger than the MT gear...ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER? Scott would like to to know (me too)....
Has there been a resolution to these problems with the Quaife's. Thinking about purchasing, but do not want to if no one is getting results.
