Default Stand alone efi controler??????

So has z has Been having massive issues lately I took it to the dealer yesterday and today I got a call saying that I have an aftermarket efi controller that's been over riding the ecu and dumping in more fuel into the engine randomly giving .me alot of issues while cruising.

So I never knew this was on my car never installed it.
Not to say my car is short of mods but iv never heard of just an efi controller. Without it bein a piggy back ecu or something. I haven't taken a look at it personally yet.

So can Anyone explain to me or have Any ideas what it is or if there is a product out there for the z that just controls the efi. And if so why it would suddenly go bad??

haltech, pro efi, vipec, motec(although i doubt you have this or a vipec) are all stand alone some people call them piggy back but they take over control of the ecu completely replacing the signals with there own. the only TRUE "piggyback" is the utec as it alters signals from what ive been told, part of the reason i sold mine. and then there is simply flashing the stock ecu but obviously you have another box added in from what they are saying. even in your own post you said they claimed the box was over riding your stock ecu so right there you know its not a "stand alone" in the concept of removing the stock ecu. its probably going to be haltech or utec, mayby pro efi but im guessing haltech or utec due to the popularity and if you dint know you had it im making an educated guess your not fi

Everything Jerry said...

Also, did you recently make any mods to the car that would affect air/fuel/spark delivery?

If the dealership can verify that the rails, intake and injectors are stock it may be as easy as just unplugging the other unit and letting thestock ECU control everything. Odds are that you have a Utec, I cannot imagine someone not removing a Haltech when selling the car or charging a premium on resale for having it installed.

How long have you had the car and where did you purchase it from?

I bought my z back in 07. Used with 50kmiles
the car was bone stock except for a set of hidious 20" chrome rims.
The previous owner was a female that worked at pet smart.
Which is why I question the claim of a piggy back being on my car.
No my car is not FI. As well iv never seen anything wired into the ecu that would hint at that there was a piggy back. Iv been under my dash several time cleaning off the terminals to the ecu tracing wires ect trying to find the source of my problem.
There's no real place for another ecu to hide either I gutted the back end of my car last year making room for a roll cage

could be a SAFC. so you dont have any extra gauge boxes on the dash or anything?

I mean its going to be pretty obvious, so i;d just go get your car back and double check,

What kindred said.

Do us all a favor and go look in your dash to see if you have an aftermarket tuner installed. Otherwise this thread is speculation.
