Default Engine swap??

What ever happened to the skyline engine swap? Was that just a one time thing or has anyone looked into it?

i saw a pic of a G35 with the swap. but that was in clubwrx.net.

why would you want to swap anyways? too much hassle. id rather rebuild the z's bottom end and twin turbocharge it.

The cash you're going to invest in an RB26 and custom dropping it into the Z... could be better spent on fortifying the VQ and building it to be a beast.

To build the RB into something that would touch a fully done VQ would start taking some serious cash.

How much can YOU bring to the plate?

You couldn't be more wrong.

The VQ is a far more advanced design compared to the RB, especially in the weight department. The only thing the RB has over the VQ is a closed deck and forged internals.

$2000 in parts will put the VQ in a much better position to take boost than the RB26, and the VQ has 0.9L of displacement over the RB.

A Z with built block and twin turbos would make a built GT-R34 weep. Not to mention the weight savings, which really shines on the road course, where the Z was meant to be.

Well, I've seen 1000hp Skyline's I've yet to see even a moderately reliable 500hp Z (if ever even a 500hp Z).

When I see 1000hp Z's I'll think differently.

I think you'll end up replacing just about the entire engine (I doubt the block could even handle it) before you even get close to what some tuners (JUN Skyline anyone?) have gotten out of the RB.

I would have to agree with azrael !! Anyways. why would you want to spend so much for a swap and destroy the technology and weight distribution Nissan build. Just beef up the VQ and you could have a mean monster and come out a lot cheaper

JUN build an 850rwhp 350z with VQ. Didn't you watch the video? Give it another year or two and we will be looking at very reliable 350z running 500+rwhp and carb approved. Can't say that about the skyline because emmisions is what killed that motor

What video?

And what did they do to the VQ? I still have my doubts about the bottom end holding up to that kind of HP.

I love my Z as much as anyone else, but I'll let other people blow there's up first. I'm no guinea pig.

With enough money you can have a Yugo putting out 1000hp.

Yeah, I found the links on this forum and a few others, but the all point to the same source which doesn't have the file anymore.

Damn.

Thanks though.

Well, also take into effect that the RB is an inline six, while the VQ is a V6. Not that I'm a FI guru, but inline engines seem to handle FI particularly better than V's do. Also, please note, that I'm not saying the VQ can't surpass the RB, howerver, this is another engine design element to consider.
