Nismo LSD
Performance Nissan put the Nismo LSD in my car (70%). To make it time efficient Rocky built up the unit in a transfer case, then when I came in they just swapped out the entire thing. It took about an hour to do the install, about two hours to do the build.
Very substantial improvement in cornering traction and acceleration. Of course we had to take it out and do a test drive to make sure it was working properly, and to do that you have to break the rear end loose a couple of times. Rocky does love his work, indeed he does.
Tires really chirp and then grab hard. Back end sits down as you throttle through the apex and shoot out of the corner. Good stuff.
Negative is tire squeal on tight slow turns, like in parking garages and especially the ones that have those slick surface finishes. And there is a shudder when the wheels grab hard on the turn and slam you forward with traction compared to the viscous unit slip.
Unlike the lightweight Nismo flywheel and clutch, where the street civility is really not at all compromised for the performance gain available....this unit will sometimes give you a little smack that makes its trade off of performance for manners apparent. Not bad if you like that kind of thing (I do!) but if you want a "stealth" mod that your little darling will not notice.....as in a worried glance and "what was that?" when you get a "clunk" on the engage and a slam forward in a tight turn...because you will not be able to resist all the time....then don't do it. But if you are still in the midst of the search for Ms. Right....or even Ms. Right Now, this mod is a goodie.

hey
sorry for what may seem as a stupid question, but what exactly does the lsd do? besides knowing that it transfers power to the wheels i am not at all familiar with the different types of lsd's or how they affect the drive. if anyone could shed some light for me it would be very much appreciated.

hndumafia - we havea concise write up on how the Cusco LSD's work on our site...it would apply to other clutch type LSD's as well in terms of general function.

Jason - I have heard the NISMO can be adjusted without disassembling the diff itself....how is this possible?

I just installed my Nismo GT LSD, JWT Flywheel and RPS Clutch took 5.5 hours from start to finish. Very easy install, trans was out and back in, in about an hour and half. The clutch is a little heavy and close to the floor, but feels great. The LSD was very easy to do and its very nice having all of the parts you need. Its all ice outside so the test drive will have to wait. I set it for medium lock up, we will see if its too much for every day driving.
