Default 08' rear diff and axles

For those of you who are pushing over 400whp and run your car on the drag strip, have you made any upgrades to your rear end? I met a guy last night at the track with a new G37 with basic mods and a spec stg 3 clutch and he ended up blowin the rear diff when hitting 2nd. It kind of made me a little paranoid since I'm pushin 10psi, but I was just wondering what these rear ends are capable of..

I snapped 2 axles on my 05 g35 coupe when I was N/A and that was on regular tires.

When I was boosting 7psi I blew by diff cover and pulled out the solid bushing from my subframe when I launched the car @7psi while rolling.

what really kills the stock axles is wheel hop, Drag radials.

I think if you get a solid diff bushings , and a diff brace you will eliminate the wheel hop.
Then get some Mickey Thomson ET street( bias ply) and your stock axles will hold just fine.

+1 get bias plies (micky thompson ET streets, ect) to eliminate wheel hop and the softer sidewalls absorb drivetrain shock during launch and shifts. I am pushing over 400WHP at the track for 3 years now (100+ passes) never lost an axle, diff bushing or any other drive train component. Everything is bone stock BTW; no solid bushings anywhere. You shouldn't have to swap out any bushings if you use the right tire.

I have never heard of a 350Z rear diff failing until this post. Wheel hop can kill anything, but even the 1000hp guys often run stuck rear diffs - they are very stout.

Axles can break from power, or from the shock of a dumped clutch or wheel hop.

here you go, I was rolling under 5mph , and launched @7psi , my solid bushing was launched 30' back from under the car

i guess i should have specified an internal failure of the diff. spider gears, pinion, differential housing, or ring gear.

Here you go

Pulled these out of the drain hole on my diff after a 1/4 mile run 3 years ago. I had so much wheel hop I broke my engine mounts and broke 3 teeth out of the big gear in the diff. I nearly made it home it was knocking linked crazy. BTW this was back when I was running 150shot NOS

Dam man, that's pretty crazy. What differential are you running now?

Wheel hop is the worst thing for any driveline. Stiffening up the rear suspension (i.e. urethane/solid bushings) made a huge difference in my car's wheel hop tendancies.
