Default Over revved motor from 3rd to 2nd, damage possibilities?

I have an 03 350z, performance trim, 84k miles. VDC was off when this happened.

Hey guys, so on the way to work today I hopped on the freeway and got on from 1st through 4th like I usually do every few days. Today when I was shifting from 3rd gear to 4th at about 6,200 rpm I went into 2nd instead of 4th. The car screamed at me and I slammed my clutch in as fast as I could and when I saw the needle it was dropping from about 7,200 rpm.. So I'm guessing it revved up to 7,500 rpm for about half a second.

I threw the car into 5th after clutching in - going about 70mph. I still had normal oil pressure, temp gauge was normal. I did notice that since then the car seems like it has a little bit more get up and go than it did before this. Which concerns me, as I've heard engines usually go lean and run stronger right before they go? I drove about 60 miles to work, and then 60 miles back without issues, the car pulled fine through the gears still.

Should I be worried?

Obviously high for an 03, not much you can do about it now other than be careful shifting...if it seems fine now, then i guess you're okay. You'd probably know if something bent lol. Miss-shifting 3rd - 2nd is a common mistake in some cars but have to be careful when WOT, can blow the engine yes, but you'd know it if you did.

When that happened to me on the race track, it blew up in <5 minutes (bent valves) so if it didn't blow up immediatly, you might be ok...

You could check compression to inspect for valve damage...

i'm pretty sure something else had to be wrong for the oil pump to "grenade" because i've rev'ed my built engine to 8700 with a stock oil pump so the oil pump can handle high rpm just fine.

OP, 7500 is dangerous but if it would have caused damage you would have known it by now. It's probably fine.
