Default Clutch Question Tooooooo....

Hi Z-Owners...Wish I lived in the states where everything is so easily obtainable...That said...I own a 2005 Supercharged 350Z which is presently standing due to a failed copper clutch...My choice is to go with the ACT NZ1-HDSS clutch kit...My mechanic has further advised to throw out the standard dual-mass flywheel & get a single plate flywheel instead,,to prevent another overhaul further down the road... My dilemma is which flywheel...It obviously has to be good bang for buck, & hopefully give a similar feel to when the dual mass flywheel was in...What I mean by that, is no shuddering & smooth pull away in traffic...I was considering the ACT streetlite single flywheel...What's bugging me is reading various Z-forums, & owners complaining of chattering with the single flywheel...Now because the Z is all new to me I am not to sure what they are referring to...If there is any knowledgeable & experienced Z-owners which has been through this exercise before, and can give valuable info, I would GREATLY appreciate it very much...

The chatter they are talking about is "trans rattle" , This is common with a single piece solid flywheel, The engine has high compression and for that dual mass flywheels are installed at the factory so it does not transfer the engine firing pulses into the drivetrain causing the "Chatter" or "rattle" in the trans.

Normally the lighter you go on the flywheel the more apparent the noise will be. Good trans fluid like Motul gear 300 or redline and a decent weight flywheel like the Southbend keeps it fairly quiet.

Sticking with a Organic or Kevlar "Street" clutch will keep drive-abilty in check for smooth starts from a stop.

Thanx Konrad, appreciate your info tremendously...Sorry only replying now, but been away on business...FYI, I decided to buy the Southbend stage-3 Endurance clutch kit & DXD flywheel from ZSpeedPerformance.Com who has been great with imparting their experience & knowledge...A big Thumbs-Up to ZSpeedPerformance...
