im new to the Z family .... and i know i have to change my clutch since my Z is a 2004 with 100k miles. i got it 6 months ago.

wth do i do ?!! and why are they so damn expensive !??/ everywhere i go

i changed my clutch CENTERFORCE on my mustang gt 2000 and it was half of the price =(

The Previous Owner put an ACT clutch in mine... seems OK. However, I am getting some serious T/O or Pilot bearing noise. might even be both.... So when I pull the trans, I'm gonna drop a new clutch in. I picked up a JWT clutch... seems like one of the better deals out there and some of the supporting vendors will toss in some extras like braided lines,pivot ball, T/O, and pilot to go with it.... Price is decent IMO.

Get a JWT clutch and flywheel. They're somewhat inexpensive, streetable and also help acceleration quite a bit.

JWT or when i was looking for clutch replacements for mine I found some Exedy ones for sale on Ebay, but just make sure they are legit Exedy. Theres always clutchmasters out here in Southern california.

of and make sure to have some PB for the exhaust bolts they are a PITA, and some extensions and angels and such for getting the transmission bolts around the top sides out. and dont forget and alignment tool!!! best $5 spend for the clutch.

 

You don't give any reason why you are changing it other than it's 100,000 miles

+1, Clutch slipping? You'll probably want to look into a new flywheel when you replace the clutch.

well the reason why im thinking of getting a new one is because the pilot bearing is going out ... therefore i might as well do all the clutch and flywheel ..... i mean how long does a normal stock clutch last anyways ???????

 

Now that I have jumped in I just have to ask how you know the pilot bearing is going out. That is even less apparent than knowing if your clutch is going out.

It all depends on how you drive it. Mine has 190,000 miles on it and is fine!

When this is all over are you going to consider it possible that you don't need anything at all or are you looking for an excuse to get a new clutch?

I have the JWT Heavy Duty Clutch/Flywheel, excellent for the Z stock and FI (491 hp) as mine is. As above various posts have mentioned it already so I believe you will be happy with it. I won't say anything about Autozone, but when I bought some oil there, they actually give me to (same brand) but two different 10w30 and 5w30 qts in the bag. My bust for not checking. I took it back the next day and couldn't get an exchange, they were out of what I wanted, wouldn't refund the $, but give me a card instead. Needless to say, I now use O'Reilly Parts Store, which bought out the Kragen Chain.

These are actually "Exedy" parts and not cheap ebay knock offs.

 

Go with JWT. Here's an Exedy clutch from a local guy on the Z/G community out of his 370z that failed catastrophically on the track:

 

That's what "can" happen if you don't break your clutch in fully before taking it to a track event and race on it. Look closely at the picture and you will see light areas on the friction material, This is where the "Brand New" clutch has not fully seated to the flywheel yet.
JWT or any other brand could do the same thing.

Now, Call JWT, Spec, Clutch masters, ACT or any other company and see if they will warranty this on their clutch and let me know what they tell you.

 

how long does a NON racing stock clutch last ??? i just drive my car to work thats all ...

 

If you want to go cheap. Get an oem clutch for $100 and resurface the flywheel.

If you want to buy quality parts you have to pay for quality parts. No way around it. Z's need to be maintained

 

Racing clutch or not it is entirely dependent on how it is used. The type of clutch will effect this also whether it be Organic, Kevlar, Ceramic ect.

Normally a high grade aftermarket organic will last longer than an OEM but under normal driving either should last 100k+
