Turbo help!!!!
Ok guys I picked up this 06' Z that just happened to have a single Turbonetics Turbo Kit on it. I didn't buy the car for this reason just came with it, kind of a perk I guess. Any how I don't know anything about Turbos in general, or this one. I only have some paperwork from the original owner on the kit when it was installed. I'll list what I know about it:
Turbonetics T60-1 Turbo
Polished Mandrel-Bent Exhaust Pipe
2.5" Stainless Mandrel-Bent Downpipe
Turbonetics Evolution 35mm Wastegate
Front-Mount Intercooler
Turbonetics Raptor Blow Off Valve (BOV)
AEM Dry Flow Air Filter
Mandrel Bent Aluminum Piping
(6) 380cc Injectors
Walbro 255LPH Fuel Pump w/ Install Kit
Turbonetics Full ECU Re-Flash
Oil Feed & Drain Line Kit
Water Feed & Drain Line Kit
*Unichip installed
The original owner paid close to $8,000 for this when all said and done. The sad part is that it's currently set up pushing 7lbs of boost and the dyno results from when they installed it show:
Max Power- 365.6 Max Torque- 355.3
The info on this kit says up to 450Hp using 8lbs of boost safely...........
I would love to up the HP on this, damn shame it's only at 365 after the owner spent that kind of money. Was this maybe to be safe and not push the Z to hard? Should I spend the money on a ECU Tune and get the HP up there in the 400's HP range? I sure don't want to F up the engine causing problems down the road, but to my advantage this Z is not my daily driver since I have had it, and that's the way I'd like to keep it. It only has 28xxx miles on her
.... So any advice from the guys running turbo on there Z would much appreciated....

I'm not an a hole...Since it's not your daily driver I would have the turbo rebuilt, if you cant find someone local, look at g pop shop out of missouri (I think)…you have 380cc injectors - so you wont see much past 380whp…
if 400whp(max) is good with you then just have the turbo rebuilt ($500) and consider having it re-tuned & re-dyno'd($400) just to be sure everything is in line…possibly have a good aftermarket-type mechanic look it over if and give you a honest assessment of the work, any required repairs and what to expect from the car($400).
considering you have a OEM block you wont want to push the engine past 450whp…until building the block (that's $12k down the road)…so just keep 400whp as a good solid number that the engine is capable to 150k to 200k miles.
who cares what the original owner paid…doesnt mean anything to you…be happy at 7psi to 8psi (350whp to 400whp).
add an oil cooler for sure($300)…
get the 450whp figure out of your mind - that's when these engines **** the bed…sure, some people have pushed them past that, but you're hardly that 'lucky' and anyone making that power isnt making it long…
Unless you want to spend $1k to $2k on 600cc injectors, a return fuel system and a better tuning(osiris or haltech) setup just be happy with the ~365whp…
and if you want 600cc Deatchwerks injectors with 2500miles on them then PM me bc I have a set I will sell you...
