Default Open Differential....?

I recently bought a 2008 base model, and I thought it had an open differential. I peeled out today and when I looked in the rear view it left two skid marks. I thought open differentials only span one wheel? The previous owner did a few really small mods, so its possible he swapped the diff at some point. Can an open differential leave two skid marks?

An open differential wont leave 2 marks. You have a differential of some sort.

Just lift your rear end up and turn one wheel with your hand.. the other wheel should be turning the same way, not the opposite

Wouldn't that work?

Multiple skid marks? Better wash your shorts.

Open can leave two marks at times under the right condition.

If you bought a used car it is very possible to get a VLSD with it. I know my 05 base is floating around out there with a VLSD, that and touring 18's were the only things done to it.

What conditions are those? My open diff wouldn't even leave two marks in gravel 0_o

I have an 07' Enthusiast, with around 66K miles, and I experience open diff qualities with my VLSD at times... Time to upgrade!! If you have an open diff, I'd recommend a Cusco MZ or RS 1.5 way. From what I've heard, they are some of the best diffs around..

I lifted up the rear and span one wheel, and the other wheel span the opposite direction. That means its open, right?

Yup, but the VLSD will do that too. I real diff like OS Giken, Cusco etc will spin the wheel the same direction.

Yes an actual differential is on my infinite list of parts to put on
