Default Does driving more efficently cause more bad than good?

Currently I'm getting great numbers, but just curious if this kind of driving that isn't met for this type of vehicle is causing more bad than good. In regards am I allowing the engine to really breathe healthy this way. I know this is a highly compressed engine and it produces higher temp than an normal car, and was built to be driven hard. But is there really anything to fault on? I have a JW pop charger, full header back Borla exhaust with free flow cats. Also I understand the flip side of the token is that because I'm not betting on it through each gear, I'm also saving alot of unneeded abuse I suppose. Though of course I do get on her from time to time like what she was met for to do. What are yall's opinion?

Hello fellow Texan. I think you're not having any fun... I drive my Z the same way all the time. (which annoys my wife, but she loves me any way)

Sure, you're babying it, but I doubt you're having any fun driving it really, unless you're commuting to work everyday in it.

The best I've ever gotten was 27 mpg from Houston to Dallas. IDK HOW you were able get 30+

I know tell me about it my commute in 30miles a day, but you're very much right about the fun factor it usually takes me about 3 days till I have withdraws Then I have a few out burst of excitement before settling down again Funny you mention your wife, My soon to be wife, we're getting married this coming Nov 10 is always getting on me when I so happen let off the gas and cruise or stay in the slow lane. she'll be all like "iono why you got a sports car if you're gonna drive it like a prius" then other times if I get too crazy she'll be all like "you know you have "Precious Cargo" on board"

I go with half a tank staying between 2000-2200RPM or 2000-2400RPM on the highway

in the city I try to stay between 1500RPM or less

Why do you have a Z then, would be my question? Not to be disrespectful, but my wife's 2003 Corolla would get way better gas mileage than you. We were getting 44 mpg in it.

See my point? Every car is going to start breaking down once it drives off the showroom floor. Every car is going to break down differently by how it is driven. Yours wont break down as fast because you aren't driving it really, you're putting around in it & wasting your gas in a car that is meant to be driven.

I would go trade that Z in & get something more fuel efficient if that's your goal.

I've gotten 29-30mpg once but that was across country driving like a b!tch under 65mph the whole way. Seriously, why by a Z then drive it like an old grandma going to church once a week. LOL. You're probably pissing everyone off around you on the road too.

I see your point, but on the topic of pissing people I'm not if I drive conservatively its always in the right lane.

But one quick question, does holding the revs hurt any on the engine, say im in 2nd and let of the gas around 5k, passing someone for instance and then gun it again instead of right away going to 3rd, isthat ok?

i see a common theme here... if you even ask about better mpg there is never a shortness of people telling you to sell your car, its a "sports car" blah blah blah.

My buddy has a C6, loves it, obviously stock for stock it smokes our cars. But he commutes with it and get an average of mid 20's mpg. I commute my 06 z and average 19 mpg. yes i would like corvetteish MPG, whats wrong with that?

We're not here to appease you. You only live once. Hope you find your thrills somewhere else if your Z is your "look at me driving my Z in the slow lane and not pissing people off" car, because you're going to **** off true Z enthusiasts (the people you are appealing to now.)

Drive your car, dude.

Drive your car the way it's meant to be driven. Open it up and let it breathe every now and then!

Well I will tell you a story that may change your mind.

Buddy of mine had a 07 Audi that kicked the bucket after he only had it for 2 years. He put about 25k miles on it in those 2 years because he does a lot highway driving for his job and other activities. Once the engine started acting up, the Audi guys couldn't figure out what was wrong. Then one day it wouldn't even start and he had to have it towed to Audi. They ran more diagnostics, and one guy said "do you drive it hard?" My buddy said no, and the max rev he would hit getting on the interstate would be like 4k RPMs. And the Audi guy told him that's why the engine died. The engine died with 57k miles on it. He didn't rev the engine high enough too infrequently. So if an Audi can die not driving it hard, I think the Z has the possibility of dying the same way if driven "slowly" for little while.

Really?! Thats exactly what I'm trying to figure out, surely these higher performing engines need to be handled differently so infrequently is the case then, cause surely going over 4k consistently is also pretty crazy unless you're always in 4th or something like that. I stay in 5th with around 2.5-3.0k on the tach around 65-70mph.

VQ engine > Audi.

Nissan is way more reliable than Audi...
