Depending on the mod, I suppose it's possible you can create problems without modifications to the ECU.

For example, you don't want to run too lean, that creates excessive heat which is going to wear everything out. If you've changed your Intake you probably noticed your getting more black on your exhaust tips. Is that a problem now? No, but it's not great either.

Thinking about NOS or Turbo, or supercharging? Then you're going to need this (or another ecu solution like E-Manage) before you run anything like that.

So if you continue doing things to your engine, changing the way it's designed to behave, then yes you're going to have a problem, as you said "in the long run".

Otherwise the ECU will simply improve a few of the stock settings to allow for more performance vs. a balance.

So headers and a new exhaust is ok? but Turbocharger and a intake i need to flash the ECM correct?

In my non-professional opinion, that is not going to require ECU upgrade. However there may be an additional improvement from an ECU upgrade.

Since exhaust is post ignition, I don't think it's going to get more lean from that, but since the engine will be breathing and working easier it will change the way the engine is operating overall.

There are some major tech people around, they are more suited to answer those questions. I'm sure they will chime in soon.

What requipment are you going to use?

Ztube and Paddock? I haven't see or heard anything on those as of yet. That's just me though... What's the 411 on that?

That's interesting, I need to look around for my info on that. I saw the clips, but it didn't show any info at the time. I'm sure it's there though, right?

What about the Ztube?

supposively, the stillen Ztube adds up to 5-7 hp by eliminating the resonators...... i have seen it on g35s and fxs.

as for the exhaust you can email them if you want details ill try to get some more for you.

guys the Z tube is intake tube on the stock Z. G35 owners put it on since it has not got the resonators the G has. that's all it is.

I actually already knew that one, I just wasn't sure. I know the g35 guys are picking up the z intakes and I think some of the stock Z exhaust, I just didn't know they were calling them Z tubes.

Thanks though Fly...

I'm sure there is something that happens along the sedan line of thinking to explain that.

It's not on those luxury oriented vehicles because it eliminates the silencers that luxury car owners would complain without.

on the contrary, I'm actually a lurking FX owner that wants to mod the hell out of mine so it is as loud and fast as possible. that's why i got the 35 instead fo the 45 cuz i can use all these Z mods, well not all of them. Plus the fx is pretty loud compared to other luxery sedan type vehicles so i dont think it would have made that much difference to include the Ztube.

You guys seem to have the coolest ideas for stereo installations and engine mods that i've ever seen before and im glad that i can use some of them on the fx as well.

BTW im gettin my girl a Z next year I dont fit in it but i can live through her (i'm 6'8).

Hi Contaygious -

We are just wrapping up our 2004 STILLEN Catalog and have a list (growing quickly) of new FX35 Products:

+Our Catback Exhaust will be out soon.
+The Intake is now available.
+We are tooling up now for a Strut Tower Brace.
+Our Supercharger will be out in a few weeks - NO HOOD MODIFICATION -REQUIRED.

For those of you reading - we are also getting started on our new Strut Tower Brace for the 350Z. This bar will work great for customers running the STILLEN Stage 1 - 3 Supercharger Systems.

Our 350Z Cold Air Intake is also in the works.

Let me know if we can be of help to you.

Regards,

Alex

What's the 411 on your cat back system, and the new supercharger, I was just on your site a couple days ago and I don't think I saw anything about that.

I'm in the market for either a Turbo or Supercharger. Just trying to decide which way to go and why.

I was at a shop today who said "turbos are more reliable and overall higher performing than superchargers". He commented that there is considerably more to go wrong with a supercharger than with turbos.

Can you help me out with this?

No, you/they have it backwards. There's more to go wrong with a turbo. I have read that countless times.
