Default Worth it for newer engine replacement?

SO you see my numerous threads about how my 2004 6mt g35 with 202k miles (original clutch) has an oil addiction it cant shake...I am not sure if I should keep the car or not so doing some homework before the worst happens

How much would it cost to take the motor out and put a newer (less miles, not burning oil) one in? And how could I be sure it wouldn't burn oil?

I'm torn because I'm not really in a rush to buy a new car. I really like the style of my car and if I was going to get a new one it would only be a g37 because I can get a sedan in 6 speed. Too bad they are look like bubble butts, maybe that's why I am in no hurry

OR would a 6speed swap in a black on black q50 be the best way to go

What do you guys think???????

Sell it, get a new car. Not worth the head aches.

If you got the time, the money, and the csr is of sentimental value, id say go for it. But at 200k, i would think the cluth will go so or the slave cylinder. Brake lines will need it soon. The power steering. Ac compressor, shocks. Bushings. Basically anything that can be will probably need to be.

If you have a second car and can turn this into a project by all means do it. But i dont feel like its smart to do so.

Pretend you bought a new car and save that payment every month. Drive this one till the wheels fall off then use all the money you saved as a down payment!

Exactly my thoughts, I don't want to keep putting money into it because you are right rust will start to get at everything before the engine even blows up. I replaced a lot of stuff so car and it's in pretty good shape other than the engine.

If you truly love the car and want to keep it as a project, I say do it. As long as you have the financial means and another mode of transportation (beater, motorcycle, etc). It can become a money pit and a source of frustration but that comes with all projects. In the end, if you think it is worth it, go for it! People always want the latest and greatest, but having something you personally put blood and sweat (and cash lol) into that will always put a smile on your face beats the former. Just stay within your financial means!

Fix it...If you like your car, and don't mind putting some money into her go for it. I highly doubt you're gonna need brake lines and all that...my car still looks quite clean underneath. That's not really a miles thing, but age. Clutch/slave cylinder are normal wear and tear items. I would assume those need to get changed regardless of age. And not for anything these cars are just older now period. Even if you get one with low miles I bet you still stand almost just as good a chance as something breaking lol. At least with your car now you know what you got, and what's been done to it.

Also, I'm really new to these cars. Just got mine last week actually lol. But, have you tried a catch can? Seems to solve a lot of peoples oil consumption problems.

Used motor is good condition $800 to $1400
A few tools you may not have $100
Eng hoist at harbor freight $150
Misc expense ( belts, plugs etc ) $200
24 pack and pizza for you and a buddy $50

This is equal to 5 to 7 payments on the new car. Let's say you get 2 to 3 years out of your car, it really paid for itself.

yea, but that only really take car of the engine, what if another problem arrise like lets say the tranny, thats another 3 car payments. then you got the rear end might go, bam another 3 payment, shocks and struts, bam 2 payments, various bearings. and so on and so on. at 200k miles, it might be time to upgrade.

not only will he get a newer car with a better resale value, better mileage, better technology, but eventually, itll be the same price as if he were to keep his current car.

sure if it has special value to him, by all mean pick up a beater and restore this thing. but if its just a daily, sell it and pick up another cheap z or g.

Imho mileage doesnt really matter, its all on how the vehicle was maintained. Saying what if the rear end goes then the tranny is like saying what if i get ran over tomorrow then robbed the week after? Transmissions, rear ends, and engines dont mess up from one day to the next. If you're having issues with your complete powertrain then by all means get a new vehicle but if your only having oil loss issues, id just replace the motor. Id also change all the fluids while i was at it. Also recommended shocks intervals are 60,000 miles or sooner, depending on your driving.
