Tilton Clutch & Flywheel - Not for the Faint of Heart
This is one hairy-chested mod. Its great when you are moving, especially when you are going fast. Revs like crazy and clutch bites hard. Flywheel weighs only 8 lbs. (stock flywheel is 31 lbs.!)
I have only had it for one day, and I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, but launching from a dead stop in 1st gear is a real challenge. Any advice from a Z owner who has mastered the technique would be appreciated.

Wasn't Tilton going to come out with a more "streetable" clutch or something? I dont quite remember.
I really want the Tiltion (if not just to torture myself), but I was hoping for a more "civilized" clutch. But with that said, when the time comes and I finally get my tranny replaced (ugh, different story ), I'll just get what ever they have and deal with it.

Do you think you can still get a good street launch? Do you lose traction alot? I'm still on the fence. Jason had some good words about the flywheel so I will probably get it, but I'm still pretty scared.

Yeah, from what Jason was telling me... FORGET about using this thing for a launch off the line.
More so, for daily driving... kiss this clutch away after a SHORT duration. You'd be lucky to get a fourth of what you do with the oem clutch.

Well call me a glutton for punishment
But I love it. Rule #1 on driving the car with the Tilton "Rally" Clutch and 8 lb. Flywheel -- NEVER come to a complete stop if you can possibly avoid it. As long as you are rolling slowly, you can get it in 1st gear smoothly. LOL
The damn thing sure is fast.
1/4 the life of an OEM clutch is OK with me. I got 90,000 miles on a BMW stock clutch that was still working when I sold the car. If I get over 20,000 mi. on the Tilton, I will be happy (and tired).

So i'm guessing you can't launch because it revs so crazy. Listen, take your tubes/tires off, and get some rims with spikes! You'll have no problem launching. hehehe

Don't know about those spikes . . .
But my stock rear tires on my Track don't have much tread left. I guess I could drive on my Kumho Ecsta MX competition tires.
But tires are not the problem here. Trust me. The Tilton clutch is a beast. I can live with the problem launching from a dead stop, since it is so much fun the rest of the time.

Jesus, sounds like the thing is a bit of work!
Must be mad fun!
Hows reversing from stand still on a steep forward facing incline mid corner in the rain at night?

I'm Gettin the Hang of It
I was giving it too much gas when trying to launch from a dead stop in 1st gear. If you let the clutch out very slowly, while giving it a little gas and not overrevving it, until it is almost fully engaged, and then squeeze the throttle, it works pretty well. Not as smooth a launch as the stock clutch, but a lot better than my first day with the Tilton flywheel and clutch. It takes some practice, as this flywheel revs like crazy.
For some reason, it is easy to launch in reverse, which seems like it should be just as hard as 1st.

hows the tilton if your not trying to launch hard?
if your just driving normally, is it really that bad? is it something you can get used to or is it something your just going to have to put up with?
i'm trying to decide whether i go with this setup or the nismo setup.
