Default Oil Pressure

I have a 2006 Z with 101,000 miles auto. After the car has been sitting over night or all day the oil pressure gauge reads high when I first start out. After some time it goes down a little but still reads 90+. That seems high to me or am I concerned over nothing. The car does not leak or use any oil.

Sounds like you have a dead sending unit. The oil pressure should be variable something like 15 psi min at idle and >45psi at 2000rpm when fully warmed up.

Thanks, how hard is it to replace? Can a shade tree mechanic like myself do it or do I need a pro?

It's easy to do, but it's also very easy to crack the upper oil pan the sender threads into. Plenty of treads here where that's happened.

It should be easy but there have been some threads recently of cracking the upper oil pan. Also thread sealer is needed according to the FSM.

On my 07 the sending unit does not seat into the block it still has threads exposed, probably about half of them. I have wondered if people tighten them too much, it's only spec'd to 13 ft-lb max.

That's because it's a tapered pipe thread.

I replaced the part and that resolved the issue. Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment.
