Default Multiple misfire, new car to me!

Hey everyone,

I just recently bought a 2003 350z from a guy I know for $500.
The car is really clean and has an issue with it. that is the only down fall..

So, one snowy day the previous owner was driving it whenever he ran over a clump of ice on the road and apparently some wires were hanging down that were connected to the crankshaft position sensor and they were ripped out. The guy took it to the shop and they put in the new sensor and cranked it up. then supposedly when it started the cat imploded or something and pieces of it came out of the exhaust. They told the previous owner that the engine is screwed.

what do you guys think? It is missing on cylinder 4 & 6. I've replaced coil packs and spark plugs with no improvement. just looking to see what you guys think before I buy a used motor off ebay and drop her in.
Thanks!
-Justin

sounds like you bought somebody else's headache. we can guess and throw suggestions out all day (kinda like you are throwing parts at it). take it to nissan for a proper diagnosis

if you had searched then you would know that people often accidentally swap coil pack connectors for 4 and 6.

but why search...spoon feeding is so nice

your'e welcome

Ahh yes, spoon feeding would be great if it was helpful advice but the multiple misfire happened while it was at the shop and the cat supposedly broke into pieces. Changing the coil packs did nothing but I will triple check just to be sure even though I'm sure they are right

The cats exploded because of the misfire and most likely age. Are the failed cats still on the car? What is the mileage on the car?

Yes, the old cat is still on it. I will be back home next week to dive into it. It has about 176k miles on it.

I took it to a mechanic and had them run a diagnostic check on it last week and the only thing he told me was that it seemed like it was dumping to much fuel into cylinders 4 and 6.

Okay, so I just talked to the previous owner and he said that it was at the shop getting the 2 camshaft sensors replaced and that is when it started to miss and the cat messed up.

I had a car that lost insulation on an injector harness once. Injector stuck open, gas coming out exhaust pipe, fried the ECU.
If wired correctly mb check insulation and grounds, gl.
