Default Stand alones and your op inions

well, granted i dont have a z yet, but am working towards it, and starting to map out my mods and what not.

what have you guys used for engine management when boosted?
i know some people have used the greddy E-01 and what not, but has anyone looked into a full standalone?

my first MR2 i had the first apexi power FC ona GEN II 3sgte in the US, and on the second i had the autronic SMC.
has anyone experimented with these? or one such as a haltech to work on their tuning? is it worth it? on the mr2 we were limited by options of premade computers and could really only go with a full standalone, and if you have ever installed one, you know what a pain they are.

i am just looking for peoples opinions on this topic.
thanks
Brandon

Using standalone will do a few things...

Cause you to fail emissions.
Cause you to lose VDC or TCS
Cause you to lose ABS (Minus one system which still allows it)

I've looked into it... no need as TS continues to figure out how to decode the ECU.

TS? what is that?

and yes, i understand the emissions (well deppending on if they jsut do a sniff test or check the ECU)

the mr2s i had the ABS still worked on the one that had abs, but they didn't have VDC or TCS, i didn't even think about that. hmmm.

with the systems out there, what is the ability to tune fuel and the timing?

Here is the problem with a ECU reflash...They set the fuel map on throttle position sensor and rpm sensor...So you get the same A/F mixture under part throttle as you do under wide open throttle..Tis causing an abnormaly rich condition under part throttle burning up your O2 sensors and washing your cylinder walls..Give it time with the boosted ECU's you will see alot of codes being thrown related to engine performance..
JMO...

exactly daking. that is the problem with reflashes and "black boxes" i was wondering if there is anythin on the market that gives you the control that a full stand alone would give you

I'm confused. If they set the map based on throttle position, how would you get the same A/F under part throttle as you do under wide open throttle (those would be two different throttle positions and would therefore have two different maps)?

Also, isn't the car usually running closed loop under partial throttle? Or are you specifically refering to a bosted situation where you might have enough air to force the ECU into open loop mode?

Thanks,
D'oh!
