Diff Cooler Essential for Track Car?
CUSCO plate type limited slip, 4.3 ratio, NISMO diff cover, full synthetic oil, warm but not hot VQ35DE. Usually with a R200 torsen type LSD as used in another car there are no signs of over heating even with more power but if a plate type LSD is significantly different then I'm wondering. My approach is KISS with the fewer hoses etc the better but if something is essential then it gets done.
What say you?

I can only speak for the NISMO 1.5 diff I've used for the past decade. It's never had a cooler, but I've heard other racers say it keeps the operation more uniform over the course of a race. For track days, I suggest you try it without a external cooler, and take note of how it runs. Perhaps other Cusco LSD owners can comment?

Whatever you do install a breather catch or at least extend the loop. Most of my running pre-cooler was with a Cusco RS 1.5 set to 80% with factory 3.5, and the left subframe ear was (and still is) oily from that time. And since installing the cooler and breather bottle with the same length breather hose (now running a OSG with gears), there hasnt been a drop in the bottle. Go figure.
I have it set on a 180deg switch, and although I cant hear it come on during the session it is definitely running when I come off track.
