Got a 07 revup. Originally I wanted to rebuild the whole engine for FI, looking to hit around 700 hp, but now I'm thinking just the heads and then get another block to build for turbo and swap it over. Done some engine work, swapped engine and did rebuild another engine but this my first v6. Building for turbo, I've read that the stock cams can be used for up to 700 whp, if true id just keep them instead of dropping 1-2k on some jwc cams. If I do decide to do the cams I know I have to replace the springs and retainers. Can I still use the same valves? Is their a difference in using different valves besides being forged stronger? Also I've read somewhere that vq heads shouldn't be machined at all and instead replaced if past tolerance. If someone has some useful tips or a great guide for information I'd really appreciate it, ty

700 hp.
Well, while possible, you're going to need a lot more than stock components from the heads on down. When you rebuilt the other engine, are we talking forged internals, upgraded retention system (studs, bolts, etc), oiling system, valves, springs, etc? Have you upgraded all sub-systems, e.g., cooling, fuel delivery, engine management? If not, 700 hp might still be achievable - for about five minutes. C'mon, we're talking more than TWICE stock power. Engine-building-for-power fundamentals are essential here. That is, all those items I listed.
So, IMO and with experience with four-five-six-and-eight cylinder builds - with half a dozen being boosted engines (only two were Nissans) - throughout my life (and I've lost track of how many NA builds), trust me, 700 ponies SOUNDS good but be prepared to open that pocketbook wider.
You might consider setting your sights on a more reasonable and achievable number that uses stock internals - 400-500 (maybe). Something else to consider, why do you think you need 700 hp? I own a 500 hp supercharged V8 car that weighs in the neighborhood of 800# more than a Z and despite my experience behind the wheel, the thing scared me when I first drove it and I still do not EVER go WOT with "just" 500 ponies and ~420 wheel. Just sayin'.
I am at 533whp (will go up in next week and half), and it will get away from ya with a quicknes, at the low low cost of around $15k So I am going to label this as a dreamer thread
