996TT hands down
There are a lot of tuning houses for Porsches, and lots of aftermarket support. Exhaust systems are almost the same price, actually less than the Titainium ones for the 350Z and produce real 20hp+ gains over the OEM 996TT exhaust. Computer tuning is the same, and so on.
With a 996TT you already start with 400hp (to 4 wheels no less), so each mod will put you that much further ahead. If you go with Stage 2 or 3 engine mods, yes, that will cost more than a 350Z Greddy TT kit/tuning, but you will now get 550+ HP in a car that STOCK will do 60 in under 4 seconds AND will lap FASTER than the R-tuned Skyline R34 (according to Kurosawa-san and Tsuchiya-san of Best Motoring = TRUTH).
All that said, I personally couldn't afford a 996TT (yet), but I COULD see building a Z33 into something like you've got over time. That's why I'm really interested to see how your upgrade goes and holds up over time. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Re: 996TT hands down
True, the 996tt i sbetter all the way around. But what average person has that kind of money to do all those upgrades let alone buy the car outright. Yes if I had the money I would be down for that kind of car. But since i am an average Joe or in this case Ray, I will suprise the rich guys with the sleeper....Holla Back!!

Re: 996TT hands down
Ok wait a minute here. Are we discussing spending $50-60K on a Z vs a $125K supercar? Good grief. You could get 2 or 3 GReddy Zs for that much. I sure hope a 996 turbo can outrun a Skyline!
Now, a TT Z versus a normal 996 is way closer comparison (in price at least). Of course, while we're at it, I want a C5R and maybe a 360 Modena Challenge edition and an F1 car and ...
Either way, your car is very nice ZRAYGO, thanks for letting us see the development.

Well, Ray jokingly brought up some points and comparisons with a 996TT and I responded to that. I have a Boxster too so I'm quick to talk about Porsches anytime. My dealer just had a pristine 2002 996TT with less than 3,000 miles. They were asking $85K and I think it went for $77K. So, start with a $36K Track model, add about $8K for Greddy TT kit and install/tuning, $3K body kit, $4K Wheel/Tire upgrade, $3K suspension upgrade, then there are other things that I would wish for ($2K seat upgrade, $2K stereo upgrade, probably a $6K urethane paint job) and you're getting mighty close...
Though again, for now I am a mere mortal, so I am loving Ray's project car and furiously taking notes so I can get the most bang for my buck in future upgrades. I do love the idea of smoking MUCH more expensive cars with my relatively cheap car. That's probably why I came so close to getting a Lancer Evo - now that is a fast, inexpensive car...

JNG1226, you gotta get down here to SOCALI and see how many rich bastards there are around here with there 60-100k cars. They pull up to the light and give you this snobby *** look like how dare you even look at me. I swear, its funny when you are right there with them and they try to put the mash down on the pedal and you are still there with them....and then it happens...the whinning of the turbos kick in......and they look again...only all you can see is the tip of the nose of the porsche in your rearview mirror......LOL!!!

2002 996TT with 3000 miles for $77K is unbelievable! It wasn't in an accident? I've never seen a car drop $40k after 3000 miles, and I didn't think brand new 996TT were even negotiable (even though almost anything is negotiable). Whoever bought that car got a great bargain...almost as good as finding a 2000 sqft house here in CA for less than $400k...

Been contemplating wether or not to get the Greddy Evo 2 Exhuast... I tried listening to the other Z member on the board with them installed but it's hard to tell what exactly they sound like.. Would it be possible for you to make some vids of the exhuast either at WOT or just cruising..
Worried of getting a sound like a big bumble bee... no offence to those who like that sound... just would prefer a more euro sound, and since the Greddy TT is in my future i thought i would look at the Evo2 exhuast. Thanks! and Awesome Z can't wait to see the Xfects!

I can tell you right now that the exhaust i ssilent right out of the box. I have test pipes so now my exhaust is loud. Not a bumbelbee sound but very very beefy (like a v-8). I have th eHelix test pipes and its like night and day. The exhaust was mainly designed for this TT. If you get the TT, then get the exhaust. You will like it very much.
