tightening belts
Before I attempt my crank pulley install, I have but one question. How does one loosen/tighten belts? This is something I have zero experience with, so any help would be great. Thanks.
Hmmm. I would just search this board for pics and or an install but I'll try to describe this.

1. Note the original tension of the belts. If you want to do it right, use a ruler to actually measure it. I'm lazy so I just guesstimated.
2. This has been covered multiple times but you need to use a 1/2" drive breaker bar (cost like $13 at walmart) with I think a 15mm socket to loosen the pulley belt. It is a complete *****. I bought a 3 foot long pipe that would slip over the handle of the breaker bar to get leverage. It was still hard. Just FYI. I bought a 1/2 to 3/8" drive adapter first because I didn't have the socket in 1/2" drive. I twisted the adapter apart and broke it. So don't do that! :-)
3. There is one belt tensioner for each belt. They are smooth and have no grooves as opposed to the pullies connected to the alternator, etc.
4. You have to use I believe a 14mm socket to loosen the bolt. Just loosen. Don't remove. Then below the car (which has to have the bottom plastic shroud removed first). If you look right near each pulley there is a gold colored 12mm bolt facing down that you have to loosen to remove tension so you can get the belt off.
This is pretty easy. Follow the directions and make sure you tighten the belt pretty well.
Mine was too loose originally and squealled on startup. I also noticed my voltmeter for my battery was 12 volts. That means the alternator was not turning. So I tightened it more and I was good.
Good luck!
