Thanks for posting that Jason. I couldn't express it well technically
So what's the stock flywheel/clutch diameter?

the diamater of the TILTON / JWT / NISMO and ALL flywheels for this car are the same...

the diamater of the stock clutch I believe is about 12.5"... need to measure again... I forgot

thanks for re-sizing I didnt relize it was that big... I just scanned and posted...

Oh, I figured the Tilton flywheel was also smaller. Guess all those holes keep it light still

350ed...

it is not the holes.. the tilton could weigh 60 pounds and still perform better then the NISMO / JWT / etc... its because all of the rotational mass is on the inside of the flywheel...

(do this out side)

take a string and tie a few nuts on the other side of it... hold the string so it is 2 feet long.. and spin it so it goes in a circle... see how quickly and easly it willgo in a circle..

now... make it so that sring is 5 feet long.. more effort is put into spinning it around

THIS stuff is why all you youngsters out there in Z land need to do your math homework & take physics. So you'll be a science geek and be able to appreciate the world at large to a greater degree & also so you can splain how machines work to people like ME. Ha! Thanks for the nifty string illustration...now, let's all take a "moment"...

Jason, I understand the physics. I was just amazed about the weight different with same diameter on the Tilton. Then I looked at the picture comparisons and it made sense The weight is mostly on the inner inches since the outer inches is mostly holes!

What about crankshaft balance, won't a lighter flighwheel induce cranckshaft walk that will take the life of the engine? That doesn't seem very reliable to me? I myself had a comptech flywheel on my last car and i loved it but later when I was flywheel shopping for my z i stumbled upn the balance issue. I am concerned because of the vast difference between 16 pounds and 50 pounds. And how much does the exedy weigh? I really like how a car drives with a low inertia flywheel though.

the engines are balanced internally, so a lightwheel will not affect it, unless the flywheel itself is not balanced.
