B&M Short Shifter next mod?
Now that I got a couple mods under my car, I'm looking for some easy shifting from the stock shifter. I still feel the throw is a bit long. For all the people who installed the B&M shifter a while back whats your guys impression and did you run into any problems with it? Im considering that as my next mod now that I got the body and engine done.
Installed mine a couple weeks ago. The worst part of the installation for me was getting the "dust cover boot" back over the link to the transmission! Hopefully at least those that have done it will understand what I'm talking about
. I did the install with just ramps.
Works great. The transmission still has a notchiness for me, especially into second gear, but the throws are shorter, and the engagement feels more solid. I can more easily identify that I'm in gear, this seemed a little more sloppy with the stock shifter.
I also developed a pretty bad vibration, which I found was caused by using the stock shift ****. I am confident that I could have solved it pretty easily if I needed to, however I had purchased the NISMO titanium **** which went on perfectly and the vibration was gone.
BTW, I also installed the leather boot available from Courtesy Nissan at the same time. Much nicer than the vinyl stock one, and a clean and simple install.
Overall, very happy with the shifter thus far.

I would estimate that a 33% throw reduction is about right, it just always seems so hard to remember what the original was like. It takes a bit more effort to shift, as the fulcrum point has been raised, but it is not excessive.
In my opinion is does not shift any smoother, at least my tranny has always shifted with a lot of notchiness, and this has not alleviated that. However I can shift quicker gear to gear with more confidence, as it seems easier to feel when the transmission has fully engaged the gear. I am not sure if that makes any sense.

Edit: BTW, the NISMO shift **** (the thin one) has improved the B&M product compared to the stock shift ****. It seems to make it easier to guide the stick right into gear. The ball in my hand feeling of the stock **** didn't work for me.

oh man, i feel ya on that dust cover.... That was the hardest part when the car is up on one jack stand and you have to work around the drive shaft... never again!

Yeah that part was a pain in the *** but the mod is great I'm very happy with it especially with my twin turbo . You can find it cheapest from what i can tell at www.350zforums.org if you decide to buy it.
