I'd run test pipes if it weren't for the fact that they don't pass smog and swapping them out, albiet an option, is not a simple procedure to do on jackstands in your garage.

How much louder are the gutted cats now? I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and hollowing out mine now, before they fail. Ever since I saw the first post on this problem, I keep watching for (and sometimes imagining) a loss in performance, weird sounds or a drop in mileage. It's just not worth the worry, and I sure don't want a replacement set when it does happen!
***** - 2 reasons for me personally (in order of importance):
1. noise
2. emissions
While I could have test pipes in year round and swap to cats when inspection time came due, I cannot stand the sound test pipes alone emit - way too loud for me for everyday
