Default N/A Tuning

Hi all

This is my first post on a US Z site so be gentle

I have already got a JWT Popcharger fitted and plan to modify the car over 2-3 years. I dont want to go the FI route because I am only 22 and the insurance would cripple me.

I was planning this route.

1) JWT Popcharger - Fitted
2) Kinetex Intake - part of th group by
3) NISMO exhuast
4) Decats
5) Nismo headers
6) NISMO cams or JWT cams?? Anyone know which is best
7) Where next?

I have a couple of questions though.

Is this list the best order to do things?

When I put the kinetex + the popcharger on would I need a SAFCII to sort the fueling? Would it run lean?

At what point of this route would I need to change to colder plugs?

Any comments?

Thanks in advance

Andy

if you are going to stay NA go with the NISMO cams...

With all of those mods you do not NEED to do anyting to adjust your fuel map... but you might be able to get more out of the car if you do adjust it... but... none of us on this side of the pond know how the timing and fuel mangement is on the 350z over on your side of the pond...

Yeah the tuning for the Z in the UK is in its infancey.

Out of interest would the nismo headers be the only type that fit a RHD Z?

I'm sure there's plenty of headers for the RHD Zs since the JDM Zs are also RHD.

Default Re: N/A Tuning the Z is actually tricky business......

as it is hard to figure out what really works and what doesn't and more importantly, which COMBINATION yields the best results. Some mods will actually cause a power loss. It is also inevitable that to get high rpm hp you will probably sacrifice a little of the low-end torque that is so great in the Z. This is simply related to the physics of airflow and it can't be overcome. I am new to the Z myself but have extensive tuning experience with Honda and Audi. Based on what I have learned tuning two Honda Preludes and then an Audi S4, my advice would be to stick with NISMO. They are the only company at present that has access to information from Nissan with regards to engine management and this is really the "black box" that holds the key to optimizing performance on the Z. Now.....you will hear a lotof people saying that I'm full of crap and that NISMO products are no better than others. This is partially true. IN TIME, a select handful of tuning companies will have worked things out properly, but it usually takes 3-4 years after a new vehicle hits the mainstream market before the hackers have really been able to do their job with regards to software engineering and proper hardware design. At this point in time, NISMO just has a good head start. Within a year, look for good things also from JWT, APS, HKS......but not yet.

Why would the insurance cripple you? The insurance company doesnt have to know that your Z in FI. Even if they did, I dont think they would charge you any more than you are paying now.

Yeah, you can not tell your insurance company you have a FI car, but then there would be no point in paying your auto insurance any more because as soon as you get in an accident they will stif you. They would probably come at you after an accident and say that in the crash, your intercooler piping came loose and smashed your ___? Insurance companies try to do whatever they can to not pay out a claim.

The insurance compaines that are willing to insure me will not insure me with FI.

In the UK you have to be 25 to get insured through most companies.

My current insurance is £1200 and I have a quote for £2500 with a Supercharger. !!!

Is there JP Nismo headers?
