Engines are not my thing so I have some questions if anyone could help me.
1. What gains (if any) do you get (not only just HP but all gains)?
2. What are the advantages & disadvantages of a pulley?
3. Should I buy the 3-pulley system or just one? why or why not?
THANKS FOR THE HELP ANYONE GIVES!!!!!

1. 6-8 RWHP across the RPM range
2. Advanages = Power gain & quicker response / Disadvantage = thats a tough one...
3. 3pulley set just saves you a few ounces of weight on the 2 other pulley's they give you no added power increase...
the pulles are all in stock w/ belts...

The disadvantages that exist are obvious. First, is voiding of the warranty. I know a dealer has to prove that the aftermarket part did the damage, but a pulley is right on the motor...so if anything happens to the motor...pulley gets blamed. Second thing is the possibiliy of human error and messing with something that works. Someone I know had a pulley that did more harm because of improper installation.
I'm not trying to talk anyone out of getting pulleys...just stating the facts...

out of all of the installs we have done no problems...
one car towed in because the person installing it could not complete the install...
no problems to date from any of our mail order customers or local customers (local being from california to arazona to vegas to colorado...)

I've heard that crank pulleys are a big no no, because the stock pulley has a dampening material in it to absorb any vibration from the crankshaft and the aftermarket pulleys don't have that material in it. The added vibration could esentially cause crankshaft bearing problems. Just my previous experience dealing with Hondas.
Hey Jason, your quote of the week is from the Simpsons right? Funny stuff.

that is true for your expereience and mine with honda's... but... on the VQ35 there is no harmonic dampner on the stock pulley... and actually the stock pulley is cast iron and there could be inconsistancy's in the material resulting in imballance... the UR Crank Pulley for example is made out of a forged piece of aluminum that is more ballanced then the stock pulley when it comes down to it... you will see there is a rubber ring on the out side of the stock pulley, that is to reduce the noise from the belts... the VQ35's crank is ballanced without a crank pulley or flywheel on it...
Well thank you Jason for the clearification. I actually never have seen the balancer on a Z because mine hasn't arrived yet. July 16th is drawing nearer, bout damn time, I'm going crazy.

Hey make sure you get the right belts with your pulley. If they are too big they can squeal.... also when they put them on (the belts) make sure they are tight enough or again they can make noise. Don't attempt to do it yourself, have a shop do it. You do get some gains and I agree, the other two are really for show and most people feel not worth the extra 100 bucks.
