jwt lightweight flywheel quandry......
idea::
going to remove and replace my oem clutch and flywheel for something better. i decided to ge the JWT fly and the nismo clutch.....
because::
saw vid (and have testimonials) of our good friend Zimbo, and his rpms SHOOT up to the reds, much quicker than the stock driveline allows.....

does the lessened flywheel mass negatively affect torque??? like a lightened driveshaft??? am i out to lunch on this??? i hope so, but cant be sure w/o feedback.... i was thinking the inertia of the heavier clutch flywheel might prove beneficial once it gets rolling, but im not certain whatsoever...

The inertia of the heavier flywheel is beneficial during the launch.
If you dragrace, you don't necessarily want this item.
Once underway you want the LEAST amount of dead inertia... lighter clutch, flywheel, wheels, rotors, etc... are all parts of this.
Traditionally lightened flywheel cars show slower 60fts, but higher trap speeds.

how about zero to sixty times (my concern really)
found THIS GREAT ARTICLE on driveline mods, and found no mention....

The JWT flywheel/clutch is not hard to launch with AT ALL. I'm an unqualified novice drag racer but I've been able to get 1.9x 60' times with the JWT combo and the Vortech supercharger.
That said, I'm not sure that the JWT actually makes the RPMs rev faster throughout the entire band (else that would mean the car is a lot faster), but rather it is MUCH easier IMO with the JWT to rev match as part of downshifting. And the clutch obviously has much more holding power compared to the stock clutch.

Keep in mind I also installed the rogue short throw shifter at the same time. I was having a big problem with the slippage in the stock clutch setup at launch and also quickly shifting from 1st to 2nd. The new setup is much more consistant for me and easier to launch and shift with. I just think that the majority of elapsed time I was losing was from inability to get through the gears quick enough. Now if I could only get my rev limiter raised up to 7100rpm I could get the 0-60 time down to around 5.0. Currently I can only get to 57 mph in 2nd before hitting the limiter. So there is definitely time to be gained by eliminating that shift to 3rd.

same boat here (but did get a sub 5 sec 0-60 time already...
i have the ecu thas not finished being redone by technosquare... (02/04 born on date)
id say the shift is good for 0.1 at least on the times....
being able to breach 60 before the gear 3 ****** would be wonderful (plus id gain about 1 lb of boost!!)lol

welp, thanks to all for the info and ideas....
i went ahead and got the JWT flywheel (lightweight version) and the JWT clutch package too....
considered it to be a better performer than the nismo clutch, for the few less pounds of weight, and the high(er) rated clamping force rating......
i just couldnt bite the bullet and go tilton, although i REALLY am interested in how the heck it feels to drive w/ one...
guess i'll have to 'settle' and have a bit less CM noise than the ultralight tilton is claimed to produce...
should have it installed my mid-week (next)

This is interesting. I can breach 60mph in 2nd gear at about 6500rpm. Either my speedo is off, or maybe with my 19inchs wheels, I am able to do this.
The bigger problem is with quarter mile times. We could drop a tenth or two if we didnt have to shift into 5th gear. Spazpilot had mentioned the idea of installing the 5AT rear differential whicih has a taller final drive ratio. This would have the effect of making all of our gears a bit taller. I like!

With the extra low RM TQ provided by the TT setups, a taller gear would definately be appealing IMO. Shorter gearing would be useful in the NA application were TQ peak is less and later. Shorter gearing could even be a detriment with the TT in 0-60 and 1/4m. I used to have an Chey 427 L88 ,4spd and my 1/4m time dropped significantly by dropping from a 410 to a 373.
Tq was huge and traction was tough. Extra shifting eats ET.
