Question Random Technology Cat poll

I spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Clay, they have also talked with Technosquare about this. My codes were 175 and 172 rich bank one and bank two. The straight through Stillen pipe cured that. I just got back from a long trip. One week and still no CEL's and the car runs PERFECT!

I told Clay I would start a poll about it to assist them in a possible fix for those going bad.

I'll start.

10 pounds of FI (they don't care people who buy high flows race)

I had Borla Headers
I was TS Tuned
I had 4-5 miles on them
I had P.E. 380cc Injectors
I ran rich
Codes 175, 172 (rich bank 1 and bank 2)

So one person voted they just have them, that is the only section they checked? Did they fail? Did you have headers etc?

Thanks Spaz!

This is being compiled to possibly address why they might be going bad so it behooves us to get it all out then I will forward it to them.

I had them on my Z... they lasted about 600 miles... car had about 12000 when they were installed

NISMO intake
Crawford plenum
NISMO headers
Borla True Dual
grounding kit

never had a code, never had a CEL, car ran great for those 600 miles, then all at once lost power.... no backfire, no explosion sound... just a significant drop in power

driver side cat looked completely blown inward (imploded), the passenger side cat was intact, but loose inside it's housing

Cheers,

PeteH

Same set up as you Max ( W/Crawford Headers).. Similar problems.

No CEL, just really bad bogging off the line.

Mine lasted 6 days, pass. side collapsed. Mods were:
JWT popcharger
Kenetix intake
Nismo ehaust
grounding kit
No codes, and pretty sure I was running rich. This was all before the n20 was installed so they were never sprayed on.

No,

hehehe.

I allowed multiple choice for RT to do data collection.
It seems the packing may not be in the cat tight enough and they may decide to redo this on this car only. Just count the top two cars which is 10. 7 Z's, 3 G's then look at their setups, most have headers , 3 had FI etc.

me too, come on it's not a slam it's to help try and prove the cats have a high failure rate on our Z and learn why.

RT has even called Technosquare so they know there is a problem. Come forward.

Hundreds were sold!

Installed them on my G35 at 9000 miles, and currently have 14,000...no problems yet.

I have borla exhaust, and jwt pop-charger/z-tube.

You should ask those people that had them fail if they let the engine warm up properly before getting on the throttle. I never brought the rpm's up past 3000 until the engine was up to normal operating temp. I know a few other people that exercise this technique and haven't had any problems with the R/T's yet.

I've heard that if you floor it without letting the engine/cats warm up, the gasoline can destory the cat material.
