Default Crane Cams Update

I just got off the phone with Dave from Crane and he's going to check with some of his product development guys to see where they are at since the last time I talked with him - it's been about 5-6 months - I have been waiting for these to come out forever, as they will be priced affordably (hopefully) - somewhere around $650-700 for the set... he's going to get back with me later in the day with any and all info he can get, including full specs, pricing, and est. release date... cross your fingers...

any comments/opinions on Crane?

If these are cheap enough, they *may* hold me over from going F/I for a little longer... and I'd have a bad-*** car waiting for a blower... Anyone know what the going rate is for installing cams and headers? If I could get these cams and some DC headers installed for under $2K, I'd be all over it!

cam installs are generally 1600 give or take. your practically tearing half the engine apart. might as well put in new low comp pistons, rods, bolts, etc while its apart.

not really...installing cams is less than $1,000, and you are only taking off the rocker box and the front timing chain cover. to put in pistons and rods, you have to pull the motor.

these are hardly the same caliber, as cams can be done in a day.

if you go to a strong shop, they can get cams done in 3-4 hours. Cost me 360.00 to get them installed on a LS1.

Like I said, I'm going to start calling around and seeing what people are asking to install cams - I think they could be done at the same time for ~$1K installed... but this all come down to what I can get these cams for... I'll keep you guys updated if I hear back from Dave today...

Crane Cams have been around for 50 years...back in the day they used to supply the cams to AMC Chrysler and Ford...out of all the cam manufacturers out there today I would jump on this chance to buy their cams....they know what theyre doing as opposed to some of these new companies that have only been around for a few years...i would expect higher horsepower and torque from their cams

The 350z has FOUR Cams that need to be installed! It will take at least 10 hours with the best mechanic!

I thought Performance Nissan would install Cams for $900.00 and Headers for $ 400.00, that's a total of $1300.00.

well seeing as how there are quite a few bolts that need individual torques specs and be done in a specific order on each side of the head, when installing the cam not to mention dissassemble and reassembly of it. the performance deal is a special i want to say they regualrly charge 1200 plus materials. its not an easy install i would not even attempt it diy.

Default cam install..........

From what I've heard & seen & witnessed.......cam install on our Z's will take between $900 - $1100 for install + the price of the cams at most reputable shops. Quite a job.... Gotta save my $$ for this one!

Regardless, I think it will be worth it as I will have a good base for my S/C when it's installed... and enjoy the extra HP I get now from the cams/headers for the time being...

BTW - I never got back in touch w/ Dave - he was out of the office for the day and won't be back in until Monday - I'll get back with him then... until then, keep your fingers crossed!

Called Dave again just now and left a voice message - hopefully he'll return my call by the end of the day...

I'd imagine it would be cheaper to get the cams installed if the engine was already out of the car getting the internals replaced.
