That's the story I've been hearing from Performance Nissan for the last 9 days.

The JWT's went in and nine days later, they still haven't gotten the car to run with out stalling. They say you can't adjust the idle on the 04. (I wish they would have mentioned that ten days ago)

I even called Jim Wolf, and Jim told me the same thing.

Um, I think wesman is right - you can have the dealer up your idle rpm using Consult...

Hopefully guys I will have some information late in the day tomorrow... cross your fingers...

I wish it were that simple, but I'm pretty sure that Performance tried that the first day.

I've spoken with Jim Wolf (personally), the guys at Technosquare, and Jason at Performance nissan. They all say the same thing.

If you have an 04, I would NOT recommend installing cams. I don't want anyone else to get burned like I'm getting right now.

Either I or they (Performance Nissan) will post the entire story in a separate thread once they get my car back to me in running order.

bwzabodyn,

Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to put a damper on your group buy. I'm just trying to share my experiences with the forum so that no one else has to learn the hard way.

Sorry to hear about your issues, but I assure you that I was sitting there when my tech raised my idle RPM's from 500ish to 750. I can't explain to you how he did it or what he did....but it definitely happened.

Default idle with CAMs

Is it possible that the magnitude of IDLE increase is "more limited" on the 2004 ECU program. Is it possible that they were not able to raise the idle TB positon enough to get the desired idle?

perhaps that inability to affect or raise the idle on 04's is not across the board. There may be different versions or at least earlier 04's where this was not an issue. Just a thought.

this is not a Group Buy, just an interest thread that I will use in the future to get a GB started... so no hard feelings - the information you are giving us is appreciated, actually, because if there are any issues, I definitely don't want to hold anyone back from gaining information that may be vital to helping avoid said issues...

I'm pretty sure that what you're talking about is the so-called 2004.5 ECU that Technosquare has not yet cracked (or hadn't last time I checked). The 2004 ECU can indeed be modified by Technosquare and with the Consult.

I believe it has to do with whether your o4 is a ULEV (ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) or not. Technosquare has some info on their website, on which O4's were ULEV and which ones were not. You can determine this by some info on the ECU labeling according to their website.

Holly $hit!! If the price is under $700!!!! My installation will be free (close family member a very experienced Nissan tech), so this is VERY tempting!!! If it adds enough power, I will jump on this!!!

I have a stock Z & I told myself I wont mod, but this will put me over the edge, hehehe. If it ads good power, I'm IN!

If they make these cams to exact OE tolerances so that we don't have to re-shim then I am interested in them for my Maxima. However I may want something a little more aggressive.
I charge $650 for cam installs that don't require new shims. And the job takes me about 12 hours on the VQ35 Maxima.

I finally found out the person I need to speak with that is heading up development - the only problem is that when I was directed to his line it went directly to his voicemail which said "I will be out of the office on 8/9 will return 8/10" - so I'll try once again tomorrow... I'm trying guys...
