Weak Clutch
My friend has a 03 track with about 20k miles and his clutch was totally gone. The dealership charged him $1900 to have it fixed so now he's considering getting rid of the car. I have about 13k miles on my 03 touring and my clutch is starting to feel funny. Now I don't beat on the car and have been driving manual cars since I got my license so I know what I'm doing.
Is this happening to a lot of people and if so would we have some sort of case, like the whole "tire feathering" problem that they finally fessed up to? I just don't want to go and spend $1900 every 15k miles because the clutch can't handle the car.
Thanks for any info.

I have 34,000 mi. and my clutch is still working fine (knock on wood). Lots of 1/4 mile runs sometimes w/slicks. But hell, I don't know too much about clutches but have been driving manuals for the past decade and a 1/2.
I'm having my third tranny installed as I type this and Nissan is throwing in a new clutch plate and disk under warranty. When my dealer first contacted me they told me that they would be replacing the tranny and clutch plate. I figured I'd throw in a disk too since the tranny would be pulled and I really beat on the clutch, ~90 1/4 mi passes. So I called their parts dept to get a price on it. The guy had to ask for my build date since they apparently have several different clutch disks for our car that match according to tranny model. When I told him that I would be getting the latest tranny 008, he said 'oh they really changed these things a lot' and gave me the price (~$93) for the clutch disk that "matches" my tranny. After getting the price, I left a message telling my service advisor to throw in a new disk too. She called me back later and said that it would be covered under warranty as well. Based on this, I assume that Nissan realizes that there may be a problem with the clutch. BTW I have 20K mi on my Z.

Well I'm waiting on the tires that supposedly fix the "tire roar" issue so when I take it in I'll tell them that my transmission feels funny. Maybe it will be covered under the warranty, until then I'll just pray... Thanks everyone for the info.
