Default Tranny Fluid Question

hi,

im in the process on installing a tranny cooler, but im stuck.

as some of you know the z already comes with a tranny cooler. its a sad excuse for a tranny cooler but it is what it is.

anyway, would anyone know which of the 2 hoses is the inlet (from tranny to stock cooler) and which is the outlet of the AT fluid (from stock cooler back to tranny)?

here's a pic of what hoses im talking about.

thanks.

You might want to get Nissan to do this installation. I am told that the transmission fluid in the 5AT is proprietory to Nissan. Unless you can get Nissan to sell you the ATF, you'll be screwed because you won't be able to refill your transmission.

The line on the driver's side is the return line... or it least it was when I installed the B&M (ATF) Trans Cooler on my G35 Sedan.

Nissan Type J ATF Fluid (in the black colored bottle) should be available at most any Nissan or Infiniti dealer. By the way, the 2003 (early) AT cars didn't come with a trans dipstick.

did you lose a lot of AT Fluid while installing the cooler? how did you deal with air getting into the system from the new lines? my 03 was built later in the year and so it did come with the tranny oil dipstick.

i actually ended up finding out the hard way. i disconnected one of the hoses and cranked the engine over to see which way the oil went. but you are right, the driver side is the return line.
