Question Correct me if I am wrong....

Ok alot you have read the my post on how to convince my mom to let me turbo my car...I think have come to a conclusion. After much consideration(and sacrifice), I have decided to go to racing school and also do NA mods. Tell me what you guys think about my potential engine mod list
-268 Tomei cams
-350evo 3.9 FD + Nismo LSD
-Crawford package
-JWT valve springs
-Technosquare ECU for Crawford Package

for Suspension I think I'm going with Tein Basics, Hotchikis Sways, and Kinetix camber kit. does anyone know if the stillen front strut bar will fit with crawford plenum?

Currently I have 19s 8.5f 9.5r but I think I want to go back to 18s all four 8.5in

This is what I have planned for stage 1, if anyone has suggestions or comments please feel free to tell me. Also if someone knows of a reputable shop in the Atlanta or even southeast area, I will be very grateful. Thanks...

All I know is this post --- So sorry...I'll be the rain on the parade. You are too young if mom is in the picture. No offense, but you need to get a real education (I presume racing school is more significant than a weekend thng) that will be of some value to you & get a real job.

Now, let's see all the mature ones out there tell you how wise it is for you to convince your mom that it's groovy to do whatever and that whatever you want to do is just fine with them and that I am waaaaay off base. Just watch. This will be fun.

no offense taken...

As I mentioned in my other thread, I have a 4.0 hs gpa in an IB curriculam and college is just around the corner. Also money for college isn't going to be a problem either. The car is just a hobby and a passion on the side. My career will most likely be something automotive but not driving, I have no intention of being a professional driver.

I agree with WP GASTON completely. If mom is still in the picture, then you are too young...Think about how hard it is now to ask your mom to turbo your car, then think about how hard it is to ask her to buy you a new engine after you blow this one...my advice is to wait on it until you know for sure what you are going to do if something happens to the car....

I guess I forgot to mention that my mom doesn't mind what I do to my car as long as it's not a form of FI.

To the question being asked, The setup sounds great for NA. You may loose low-end punch with aggressive cams, and gain that and then some up top - I assume the ECU reflash will raise the redline - you'll want that 'cause that's where all the power will be. Some have reported that Crawfords headers provide more torque below that just about any other header out there for the Z, which should mitigate this at least in part. I would have bought Crawfords, but I wanted Stainless Steel - keep wishing he would offer these in SS.

When I got my Z I never though I would go FI, but I have come to the conclusion that NA mods add only incremental gains - a well-thought out FI kit is the only way to provide significant gains - I am going Vortech.

Best,

Chris

Thanks for the replies

I was thinking that the 3.9fd would also make up a little bit for the lost down low...

Yeah, I would figure that would make up for lost low-end. And a raised redline (as I was told in my thread) would help regain top speeds in each gear.

Ok... I gotta say it...

Go get a J-O-B and buy your own turbo!

And learn the value of money and working for what you want while you're at it.

After you've spent $30K of your own, hard-earned dollars on something, you won't be so quick to risk blowing it up.

I work and pay for my car and deffinately would rather someone else pay for it, who wouldn't. If his parents have money to blow why not let them spend it on their son. And I don't know about anyone else but if my parents bought me something and I ruined it I would feel much worse than if I bought it and ruined it.

DLin05,
The criticisms from the others were inevitable. However, I'm with Vivid. If the family has the capability to support you ... then great and why not!

I'm also glad you're taking to the driving school route. That is simply the best mod you could have. Oh ... and I also hope it is the *real* driving school, not a simple weekend session at a track w. some local race club.

Finally, if tracking is your goal ... then I would second guess the Tein Basic coilovers. While they're arguably better than the oem system ... it's not the most ideal choice for track use, as its dampers are non-adjustable. Either go straight to the Tein Flex or the JIC FLT-A2 and a set of sway bars. The rest of power mods could come much later. You'll enjoy your car more once you get a hang of it at 110%. Only then will you really appreciate each additional power mods as you add them one by one ... and learn to love your car all over again.

... just another track junky here. Good Luck!

I could only WISH my parents would buy me stuff for my car - they (and the fiance) HATE my car! That's because I love it almost as much as I love them!!! hahaha

But seriously... I think you've gathered some valuable knowledge on here because the mods you listed are up the right alley for creating a great street car that can be tracked... almost as important as all those mods are the wheels and tires you decide on... make sure the wheels are light/strong and make sure you get some Goodyear KD's to hold everything down... they will improve your times more than just about anything else you listed...

NzZ...I'm sorry if I can't take pride in what I do and be proud of what I have acheived...I was only mentioning the fact to show you guys that the car isn't my whole life(although a good bit) and I wasn't just throwing money away. if you have a problem with that then you can deal with it.

RoadRager...the problem isn't using her money, the money is mine. The problem with the turbo was that my mom didn't feel that it was necessary for me and I just didn't want to go against her wishes. and by the way....I am not even going to get the turbo anymore...

Thanks to everyone else for the automotive feedback...as for driving school it will most likely be Skip Barber.

I personally feel that you have put together a great list of N/A engine mods. The aggressive cams will hurt the bottom, but coupled with the 3.9FD, Crawford Headers and the ECU reflash, you will still notice gains over stock in the bottom end for sure. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at the performance of your car with those mods. I have no real desire for FI anymore, I am only waiting to install the 6MT FD and hopefully a valve body upgrade. The 18" wheels are a good choice as well as the 19s do take away from overall performance, especially when staying N/A. The only thing missing from your list is an intake and exhaust, which you may already have taken care of, but I would at least recommend a good y-pipe or a true dual catback system + the Injen CAI.
