Default electric cutouts

Is anyone using the electric exhaust cutouts on their Z? Or for that matter the manual cutouts? I am planning on using these instead of a whole new exhaust system, but need to hear the sad stories first. The dealers say up to .3 secs off of 1/4 mile times, but no mention of HP gain.

Any info?

iv been thinking about this mod myself. iv seen wrxs have it and its a reletivly simple install yet the power gained as admirable. one thing is when my buddies have thier cut outs open they loose all back pressure so they cant launch. iv seen them launch and once moving opening the cutout. im thinking this will be benificial for the Z aswell.

The cutouts provide an exhaust outlet right off of the headers. You can get either electric, around $200-300 which you activate from the cockpit, or manual which means you climb under the car to opena and close them, about $30.

Go to google or yahoo and type in exhaust cutouts for a full explanation.

Re: the backpressure causing bad launches, have heard nothing of this. Some of the dealers claim to cult .3 secs off of the 1/4 so I would assume the launch would be ok.

Help - I am currently overseas and do not have access to my Z. I want to order the cutouts while I am here (Libya) but don't know what size exhaust the Z has. Is it 2 1/4, 2 1/2 or 3"inchers?

Default Cutouts

I have test pipes with cutouts and have seen no increases on the dyno whether they are open or closed.

flow wise i dont think there could be anything better to get rid of exhaust gasses quick. when i get my car late october itl be one of the first mods. even if it doesnt do anything its relitivly cheap around 190 for the electric ones around here. the only reason i wanna do this is because i love the stock exhaust sound and i dont want an exhuast system thats always loud. its either this or get the quitest aftermarket exhust out there which wil probably yield no gains. wel see when the time comes.

i had one on my accord. It cause the turbo to spool faster and when the boost hit, man it hit hard! opened it when i wanted to have some fun.. closed it when cops were near..

made my car SUPER LOUD..as for tuning, it was tuned with it open.

I wouldnt suggest that on the Z... gotta lost some low end power. the Z doesnt work like a turbo car, you want a little back pressure.

I just tried my Z with no exhaust(still full cats). DAMN that was loud as hell. couldnt imagine it without cats either.

Has anyone actually been to the dragstrip with open exhaust on the Z? Would that mess with the ECU at all?

also i wanted to know how teh cutout would work on the Z since we have 2 cats and there on 2 different pipe down from each header. we would need 2 cutouts. also if weather heat was an issue. accordfreak if you would like to chime in since you ahve practicle experience.

on the Z, does the exhaust manifold bolt directly to the cat? ff there's a pipe in between the cat and the manifold, you could just weld on the cutout before the cat.. both sides of the engine of course.

heat was not an issue. Later on bolted on a short pipe from the cutout that pointed straight to the ground so all that soot wouldn't get under my car. but of course.. make sure it doesn't point to any fuel lines, wires or anything haha

also.. if you drive your car normally around town with the cutout open your low end will be **** slow.. boost didn't start til 3k for me.

and the cost isn't 150-300... i bought mine for $90... so about 180 for two cutouts hehehe
