Default '03 Manual Transmission Problems

Does anyone know the VIN numbers of the '03 Zs that suffered from the manual transmission grinding problems? I don't see a TSB on the problem, but I've noticed several guys have said their Z was built "after the problem was fixed".

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it was below the 16000 range. Regardless, if you do not have the 008 revision trans, I suggest you get it before your warranty is up if your tranny has any sort of problems.

How do you check for tranny revision? Is it possible to know the tranny revision by vin number? I'm barely out of the 16000... 20K miles, no problem yet.

I think mine grinds when I shift into 3rd and sometimes 5th. It's not like when you grind a gear by not having the clutch fully disengaged when shifting, it's when I push the shifter into the gear and it doesn't set in smoothly. Usually happens when I push the shifter as fas as I can, but it never happened before. Is this what is considered 3rd gear grind? My '03 Z is around 14,800 for the VIN and I have under 7k miles.

Edit: It does kind of feel like grinding a gear would be, but not as loud (usually no sound). Just a little bit of a grinding feeling.

that's what mine was doing but in 3rd and 6th. 3rd was only on occasion, but 6th would do it everytime if shifting fast. it would go into gear but there was a slight grinding(you could hear and feel it) before it engauged

Interesting. I'm not so much having any shifting issues but I do hear and feel some vibration under high rev deceleration. The noise and vibration increased after i switched to Redline tranny fluid as well, which, I was hoping would have the opposite effect. Anyone else out there with a similar issue?

Any 2003 has the original tranny. I believe the 2004.5's started revision 008.
