Default DIY - Cold Air Tube

This is similar to part of the K&N CAI, or the tube you can buy that extends the stock airbox opening to behind the front grill. I wasnt thrilled about spending that much money, so I measured everything out and it worked out nice.

At Home Depot:

Two - UPC 012871528828 ABS EL (3" black 90 degree elbow, the kind where only one end is ballooned out) $4.21 each

One - UPC 611942111169 2FT ABS (3" black piece of PVC, 2 feet was the smallest they sold) $7.75 each

1. Take one of the 3" elbows, on the side that is NOT ballooned out, just sand down the edge on the outside, so that it's more narrow then flat, this will help it fit snug into the stock air box opening behind the front bumper.

2. Cut the 2 foot piece of 3" ABS into a length of about 1.25 feet

3. Slide the elbow so that the NON-ballooned end you sanded down fits snug into the air box opening (i did NOT use glue, it holds itself in place, see pic)

4. I used pvc glue, but I'm sure any plastics glue would work, but place some on the inside of the ballooned end of the elbow, and slide the 1.25 foot piece of 3" ABS into it.

5. Now apply glue into the ballooned end of the other elbow, and slide it onto the straight 3" tube, and position it so it rests on the bottom of the inside of the front bumper, facing forward right behind the grill. (See pic)

Its a snug fit, and the straight piece of pvc is a tight fit past the front bumper support, but it works and holds everything in place.

Tomorrow when I have some more daylight I'm going to see about maybe attaching it somehow to the body or rad support, but I went up and down a highway and on one of the lovely roads of PA with it's ridiculous amounts of pot holes and it didn't move at all. Also, you can't really tell it's behind the front grill unless your up close. Hopefully this is a descent alternative to the more expensive options.

haha i experimented with something like this and let me tell you it actually works. I took it off the car though because it looked ghetto. Well I experimented using it with my jwt popcharger, from my 20 minute commute from school to home on the freeway, I realized when I got home and touch the metal on the air filter, its actually pretty hot, like cant keep your fingers on it hot. Then I decided to try using a method like this and when I got home from school to check the metal on the filter, it was cool to the touch. I dont know if it adds any power for a ram air effect but it definitely will cool down a short ram setup as it heats up easily. Nice job though

Very similiar to why I've done with vacuum hose yet I used the nismo' bumper air splits so you really don't see my tubing

Not too sure if the stock bumper comes with them I'll try and post pics

Wish we ha tools to test these small mods other than using our butt comparison to verify **** works

Way to mod though very creative
