I want to give this car the life it deserves and the one i deprived it from for the first 5 years of owning it. this will most definetly Not be a " garage IG car ". This car is everything to me. It has helped me through some tough times as im sure a lot of peoples cars have. I want this to be a portfolio of me to show what i can do when i put my mind to it. I want this car to show its only the begining.
I like the background/story and it sounds like your in good hands (both career-wise & family-wise)

You will see that you are in similar company - I’m working on year 18 with my car, DKMura is likely the most tenured as he was in at the get-go of the launch of the Z - many others are along these lines.

If your goal is 800hp you might as well bump it up to 1k hp bc the supporting mods will be the same. Plan on sleeves, you’ll need a whole new drive line (twin/triple disk clutch, upgraded driveshaft, axles, bearings, etc), plan on spending quite a bit on fueling ($2500 injectors, $500 in pumps, $1k in a surge tank setup, custom lines), plan on $3k in ecu & ecu support, tuning will probably be another $1k. And factor in dedicated wheels/tires bc anything DOT wont hold that power. Turbo kit is probably the same cost but you might need to buy a different turbo to hit 800hp.

If you can drop your goal to 650hp to 700hp you will cut your costs in half and in reality, you’re not using anything more than 600hp on the streets anyways.

and maybe the thing to do is build the 600hp setup and then build the 800hp setup … my 2cents

Yea i really look at my max hp at 800 as quite literally the MAX i want it to make. I really would rather over build this motor than underbuild it. Realistically i would like for it to make high 600 to low 700. but i appreciate the info and advice man. And yea i know im gonna be in some serious cash for this build but there isnt anything i would rather spend my money on ( besides maybe my wife ).

After building and getting mine tuned to a bit over 600, I'll honestly say I've ran it at that power level less than 5 times. My goal was always a striking street car that has a good balance of syle, handling, and power. Anything over 550-600 is a burnout machine or highway puller that requires a drag pack to use it all. One benefit of the chassis being as old as it is now, is there's a wealth of wisdom across the community.

I can't tell you how many times I talked to guys with big power builds (700+) that always said they had the most fun with the car in the mid 500hp range. The general consensus was 500-600 was "perfect" if done correctly and (usually) didn't have any major issues of concern.

I took that to heart and 99% of the time I drive the car on low boost (~550whp). I did overbuild everything with the hopes of having some margin to avoid any issues. I figure I've left plenty of power on the table, as I imagine I could probably make 700-750 on the dyno with a couple of small changes...but I could never use it and likely would start breaking things.

Nice background, I whole heartedly agree with the others 500-600hp is a more realistic goal. You are just NOT going to grip at 800hp without AWD.
a stage 1 longblock from Soho is $21k and is good for 700-750hp IIRC.

i appreciate the advice man! Im starting to think that might be the move considering the fact that everyone else has said the same thing. Ill look over my options and reconsider what type of power i want to make off of this car.

Well i appreciate it man seriously. This is my first post on this forum and i cant express how much of a help everyone has been. Im going to reconsider my power goals and do some more research and probably shot for some lower numbers. I do want it to be streetable and be able to take it out to the strip when i want so i think that is a better option. Thank you guys so much!
