Default Rod choice , Help !

well time has come to install my APS TT
im also goin to build my engine :
- MAHLE pistons 9:1 CR
- L19 headstuds.
- ARP main studs.
- ACL race main and rod bearings.
- OEM gasket kit

- stock heads
- JWT c2 cams
- BC valve springs
- vq HR lower plenum

i have 2 sets of rods laying around : Eagle and Pauter rods, and i can't decide which one to go for coz eagle rods are lighter but pauter rods can handle more power.
im going to use my stock short block, so im limited by boost 19- 20 psi since its an open deck.
so what do you guys recommend ? what will you do if u were in my shoes ?

I am no genius or anything, but if I had to choose, I would pick the stronger rods. From the sound of it you are gonna wanna be boost crazy and at Higher psi I would be more concerned about endurance vs weight.

It depends on your long term goals with the motor. If you will never exceed 20 psi of boost, I would choose the Eagle rods. They will handle that level of power and, with their lower mass, will put less stress on the rod bearings.

If you think you may crank up the boost sometime down the road, then the Pauter rods are worth considering.

It's pure common sense. Your doing a nice build with some good stuff don't flake out on the rods. Looking forward to see a flick of your build.

Assuming the Pauter rods were not run with significant detonation and/or pre-ignition, I don't think 12k miles will be an issue.

I had the C2 cams and loved them. imo, they are great cams. With the C2's, I had nearly 600 ft-lb of torque in the low 4k rpm range.

The C2's have more lift than any other cam for our motors with equivalent durtation. Just keep in mind that they should not be run past about 7500 rpm and, per JWT, they should only be used with JWT valve springs. The JWT "C" series cams have steep lift angles and, per JWT, there may be issues if the wrong valve springs are used. The "S" series cams are supposed to be fine with the stock valve springs, as will be the BC stage 2 cams.

I did sell my C2 cams, but that was to upgrade to the C8's (I wanted more flow for the 4.0L motor).

No reported aftermarket rod failures in the VQ world. Both sets would work well. If I had both sitting in front of me, I would probably take the Pauter rods.

Either or man, your not gonna exceed the limits of either one of them.... there's really no difference. On their site they rate eagles at 1500hp. . Like stated before, there are NO reported rod failures. Im going the Eagle route for my build.

You are never going to make enough power to cause the Eagle rods to fail, not to mention the lighter rotating assembly will rev higher and more freely.

The clear choice is Eagle.

id change turbo kit...for extreme if possible..., for aps tt, do a basic bottom end build....
even then...too small turbos is weak (for my taste) to waste $$ on overbuild engine on

exactly

and you're not going to set any hp records with an APS kit anyway - use the new ones
