With so many of the prices for parts going up due to the poor exchange rate, we're happy to offer new, lowered prices on the full range of Tomei camshafts for these cars.
If you've been on the fence, nows a great time to save significant money, and get a truly amazing set of cams for your Z or G.
It is impossible for us, or anyone else to predict what power you will gain from installing any set of camshafts because there are simply too many variables. As you alter intake, intake manifold, exhaust, exhaust manifold, and tuning and the type of dyno, the results can and will vary. Cams are a very complicated, yet strikingly simple mechanical piece. They control how much air can reach the combustion chamber, which ultimately determines how much power the engine will make and over what rpm range that power will continue. The duration is how many degrees (based on a maximum of 365) the valve will remained open. The lift is how many mm the valve will lift, which is what lets the air into the combustion chamber. As a general rule of thumb, the longer you leave the valve open and the higher you lift the valve, the more top end power the engine will make. However, these factors can be manipulated by many factors including intake manifold selection, header selection, and cam timing.
Tomei cams are all ground from brand new billets at their factory in Japan. No seconds, no regrinds, just the best from one of the premier engine builders and tuners in the world.
Tomei divides their camshaft range into 2 distinct categories:
Poncams: The Poncam lineup is designed as a direct drop in replacement, for those who want to increase useable power across the rpm range. While increased gains can be possible via ecu tuning, they are designed to work with the stock computer and stock valvetrain.
Poncams are offered as follows:
VQ35DE (non revup): Intake - 256 duration, 10.2mm lift; Exhaust - 256 duration, 10.2mm lift exhaust
VQ35DE (Revup): Intake - 260 duration, 10.3mm lift; Exhaust - 260 duration, 10.3mm lift exhaust
VQ35HR: Intake - 250 duration; 9.8mm lift; Exhaust - 250 duration, 9.8mm lift
For those who want increased power and torque at the mid to top end of their rpm spectrum, and/or those running built motors, forced induction, or high revving NA applications, Tomei offers their Procam range. These cams will require mandatory ecu retuning, and professional installation is required to ensure proper clearancing. I'm running a set of the Procams in my own engine, and although the particular grind I have is no longer produced, they have performed very admirably over the last 5 years. While on paper some grinds may not appear "aggressive", please keep in mind that the published specs don't reveal the full story. These cams all feature an aggressive ramp rate, which determines how quickly the cam shaft hits is peak lift and duration. These cams are designed to accentuate as wide of a sweet spot in the rpm range as possible. These cams are also sold as pairs allowing advanced engine builders/tuners to stagger them to suit the particular needs of the engine
