I have the factory rear spoiler kit that came with my car. I noticed it comes with two support struts for the hatch and instructions included to install them. Are these heavier duty struts??? If so does the factory wing put that much additional weight on the rear hatch that you cannot use the factory equiped struts that originally came installed on the car???

 

Yes, they're heavier duty struts. And yes, the extra weight does require the struts.

 

Thanks. Thought i had read they were replacements to handle the additional weight ,but was not sure.

 

but that OEM spoiler weighs next to nothing at all, don't see why you need stronger struts unless you are gettimg a NISMO spoiler

 

It doesn't weigh too much, but it's all about leverage. With all the weight at the end of the hatch, a bit more resistance is needed to keep the thing open. Installing the struts has to be the easiest part of the install.

 

you don't need the struts... just take out the 5lb ballast in the hatch (remove the plastic trim from the inside and you can't miss it)
