Racing Seats and Harness Questions
I wanted to change out my stock seats for something a bit more aggressive. I haven't given much thought to the brands but I am thinking Bride is the way to go. Anyways, I'm kind of confused as to what I need for the whole set up. Here is what I think I need:
Seats
Sliders
That bar that connects to the stock seat belt thingy (haha very technical I know :P)
Harness
What else would I need? Any recommendations on that harness bar so that I can still use my stock seat belts with ease?
Thanks Guys!

I would suggest this fine piece of work. A bit of $$ but well designed, executed and very functional. Just installed one myself.

Redfoot, thank you very much for the endorsement!
Have you utilized your awesome photo skills and taken any pix you'd care to share? I bet it looks great with your Frost leather!
Also, looking forward to a review of your new 3rd member!
ReavTek, this bar allows FULL use of OEM belts. Heck, you could use harnesses & the OEM belts at the same time!

The view through rearview mirror... some have been concerned with it blocking.

WOW!
Looks even beter than I imagined! Must be the photographer!
As to your 3rd member, "its a big one" leaves a little to one's imagination.....Think Road America on the 4th.
FWIW.....Redfoot is a VERY fast HPDE driver

You can save money and bypass purchasing a harness bar, and just wrap the harness around the rear strut bar. That is a very strong point, and will hold up just fine. That's how i have mine ran, and it works fine.
As for seats, I have Cobra Imola GTs in my car, and i highly recomend them. if you email me i can send you pics. The baseplate bracket that actually bolts the floor of the car will have or should have the plate that the stock seatbelt buckle can bolt to. It's basically a tab that is welded to the side of the baseplate. Then from here it depends if the seat is a base mount (like almost all reclining seats are and some fized back seats), or side mount. If the seat is sidemount, then you will need obviously side mounts for the seat. The sliders bolt in sandwiched between the baseplate and the side mounts, and WALLA you're done. It's very easy to do. I did my own in about an hour. I highly recomend Cobra seats, and you can get them through SUBESPORTS.COM
They are racing legal for many different sancioning bodies, and are crash test rated. Many Bride seats are not, including their reclining seats or the majority of them anyway. Cobra reclinging seats have a locking mechanism that locks the seat back in place in case of a crash as well. But there are many good bride, recaro, cobra, sparco and momo seats out there. I wouldn't recomend any seat other than from these 5 companies really.
Stay away from entry level seats from all companies, as they tend to be a little uncomfortable due to steel tubing as the main structure.

Ok, just to put it al in one place for you, you will need
1. Seats (i like RECARO....but i would!) i have the speed's, and they are reclinable. i also like bride. but at 5,9 185lbs, they were a little too tight.
2. Mounting brackets. they mount to the floor. i am using brackets by wedge engineering, but I DO NOT recomend them! they were too much $$$, they needed to be modified to fit properly, and their customer service SUCKS!! the guy i delt with was a real Di@K! your best bet is to have a set made. i was quoted $150 by a friend AFTER i had already ordered the wedges.
3. Sliders. sliders mount on top the mounting brackets, then the seats mount to the sliders. thus making the seat able to slide. i am using sparco sliders. i needed a custom piece between my sliders and seats, since the holes didnt line up. it wasnt to hard though.
4. If you buy a NONreclinable seat, you WILL NEED a set of at least 4 point harnesses due to the fact that your stock seat belt will be USELESS! it will not lay flat across your lap because of the seats raised sides. if you buy a reclinable seat, you can still use your stock belts though. or both! (i use reclinable seats, and Takata harnesses.) that will depend on personal prefferance.
5. If you decide to use harnesses, i HIGHLY recomend using a bar of some sort. IMO the rear STB is NOT a safe mounting location! as for bars, you have a few choices. eigther a harness bar, or a roll bar/cage. (i am using a harness bar made buy BCR. thanks again EnthuZ!
) i can speak for this bar. it is AWSOME quality, and a straight foward install! best product in its class, hands down. there is some debate between which is better, bar, or cage, but that is another thread! here is a link to 350zmotoring with a few pics of my setup.

One last thing. if your going to be using them on the street, ie the seats/harnesses, be SURE to spend the extra $$$ to get products that are CRASH TESTED!! safety equipment is the LAST place to cut corners. hope this helps. pm me if you have any questions.
