Okay, so I was throwing in some new components in the front of my Z, and I realized that the drivers in my new Crystal Mobiles were twice the size of the stocks, and that they wouldnt clear the window when it was down. With that said, I made a custom fiberglass molding to have the speaker grate outside of the door panel instead of inside of it.

After that, I had the doors painted two tone as the beginning of my blue/white color scheme for my car. Next step is my Blue CF center dash piece that I am getting from Suite E GraphX hopefully in January.

Im pretty satisfied with the way they came out. I think they are looking like a good start to my interior design. Im gonna try and get some pics posted up here once I get done wiring my front components and then get these back into the car.

This was just the first piece I am doing for my interior. Next I am doing the molding behind the seats and the Z bar. The paints I used were the actualy Nissan color codes B17 and QX1. (Daytona Blue and Pikes Peak White)

How did you get the door prepped for paint? I've been thinking about painting mine but I wasn't sure how to get the vinyl off.

I treated it as if it was a plastic piece... I used a really high grit sand paper (600 to be exact) and then I sprayed on adhesion promoter before the paint.

However, I had my doubts if the paint would stick on the rubbery material of the door itself rather than the the leather/plastic on the bottom part near the arm rest. I was afraid that it wouldn't stick and would just crack right off. So far though, its been sticking pretty well and no cracking. I have Daytona Blue touch up paint though, so even if I do get small cracks here and there, I can use the touch up paint to fill them in.

 

What rubber parts are you talking about?

 

They aren't actually rubber, but Im talking about the material of the door panel itself. The part painted blue in the picture. Touch it on your door panel, you will notice it is not a true plastic or leather, but not really a true rubber either. I dont really know exactly what it is, but whatever it is, its difficult to paint.

 

you will need to sand down, then put body filler, wetsand then paint. It will come out smooth, glossy just like fiberglass.
