Has anyone installed aftermarket leather seating in their Z themselves? Was it very difficult? Has antone done a DIY write-up on it? Thanks in advance for any help

i did it myself.....it wasnt difficult, more like time consuming.

taking the seats out is easy, theres like 4 bolts per seat. just be careful not to scratch your door sills (i did)

then you ahve to take the back of the seat apart from the butt part, as well as take the plastic siding off teh butt part

take the stock seat covers off, and throw the new ones on. you will need a ton of hog rings and the tool that they go along with (forgot what its called)

you have to attach the leather to the butt part of the seat with the hog rings, basically pull the leather as tight as you can, and clamp it on to the underside of the seat. the back part is alot easier. for the headrests, i didnt bother taking the old seat cover off, i just threw the leather overtop of it, it was easier. just make sure you pull everything really tight and smooth it out to the right places before you put the seat back together so you dont have any wrinkles.

also, before you put the back cover on, you will have to cut a hole in the leather for that random clip thing on the back of the seats. its the black clip plastic thing at the upper center of the seat. i dont have a pic of it, and im retarded right now and cant remember what its called.

all in all, it took about 6 hrs and some beer to get done....its tidious, but not really difficult.

 

Make sure you disconnect the Harness wiring under your seats that way you don't get any Air Bag Warning Lights (that is if you have them ) and remember where they clip back on.

i watched my installer do them...even with his significant skill, it required several hours. if you want perfection, i would leave it to a pro. removing a screw is one thing; working with those c-shaped nails and leather is another...imo.

 

yeah, i would like to see some pictures of your DIY-install as well. I have the ***** to take my car apart (cluster, panels, doors, etc) but i'm debating whether to do the seats myself or not.
